New Zealand Warriors prop forward Russell Packer is sorry if he offended, but doesn’t think life will change all that much as a result.

San Diego Chargers kicker Nick Novak caught Internet hell for relieving himself before overtime of an NFL game in November 2011. But, hey, at least he tried to hide, on one knee, off on the sidelines.
No such sideline hiding for New Zealand Warriors prop forward Russell Packer, a National Rugby League player who was caught on camera peeing through his shorts on the field during the match at Suncorp Stadium on Monday night. The NRL fined Packer’s Warriors $15,000 for the display.
The Australia/New Zealand part of the world started buzzing immediately, and commenters on YouTube and local news sites lit up at Packer’s unholy urination, referring to the field as hallowed ground and Packer as a “grub.”
Packer gave a terrible non-apology: “I’m sorry for anyone that I offended, and my life really doesn’t change too much going forward, does it?”
Perhaps he instead should have laughed off the team’s fine with some Lebowski: “Every time a field is micturated upon in this fair league, I have to compensate the commissioner?”

I would hate to be his lock
Maybe the whole thing worked out just the way it should. He broke the rules, admitted he broke the rules, and then paid the fine. What’s the big deal?
I’ve never been rich enough to pay 15K to go to the bathroom, but hey, maybe he’s just in a different tax bracket.
I don’t know. What’s going on with sports in general, that normal and important bodily functions can’t be performed privately? Why is there no ability to relieve yourself because you need to, without just peeing all over yourself or the ground your team mates will end up face first in? And as a mother of a toddler, I have a question….do they think ahead and go before the game starts? Maybe they could have a port-a-loo off the sidelines…
Hey! It’s not like he ‘Whipped it out’ or anything. I mean, you would really have to be paying close attention to him to realize exactly what he was doing
Though the guy has a point about marathon runners.
And Olympic swimmers. Though there is something to be said about everyone being able to see it… And it IS against the rules.
Not really. Marathon runners don’t tend to end up face first on the ground and rugby pitches aren’t full of chlorine.
