One of the most challenging parts of being a Christian is, no doubt, the aspect of holiness. Many Christians have fallen by the wayside, while several others are still struggling to keep up with the requirements of holiness. However, that is not to say living a holy life is impossible, and in fact, many people have been able to lead it. Leading a holy life isn’t a one-off practice but a consistent lifestyle that defines the personality of an individual. So, if you want to abide by the true values of the Christian religion, it is very important for you to make a decision about holiness. Christianity is a pure religion that leaves no room for unrighteousness. Hence, any individual who truly wants to enjoy the glory and blessings of the highest God has to be ready to lead a holy life, Matthew 5:48. With that being said, here is how everyone can lead a holy life.
Focus on heavenly things and not the earthly ones
Since you have been cleansed in his blood and raised to a new life, you must focus your gaze on Christ Jesus who sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. In order to stay perfect and faultless in the sight of God, you need to continually think about heavenly things and not the things on earth. There is no way you will be able to lead a holy life if all you are ever worried and concerned about are the things of this world. On a more practical note, you can set a standard for yourself in terms of how long you meditate every day, how much of the word of God you feed yourself, and how often you communicate with your father in heaven through prayers and supplications.
Live by the word of God
Holiness doesn’t come as a free gift; instead, it is the reward of a long-lasting effort. For starters, in order to live a holy life, you have to live by a code – the word of God, which means you have to meditate on Bible topics and verses day by day. His words are a lamp unto your feet, and the word of God is detailed enough to guide you every step of the way. For every situation you find yourself, there is always a solution in the word of God. Hence, once you’ve made the decision to make your life holy, you must make the word of God – the Bible – your watchword.
Put sin to death
Sin is the biggest threat to living a holy life. There is no interconnection between holiness and corruption, and each time you abide in sin, you are further moving away from God. In order to stay sin-free, flee from all appearances of evil 1 Thessalonians 5:22. Have nothing to do with impurity, sexual immorality, evil thoughts, evil desires, lust, idolater, greed, and all forms of unrighteousness. Maybe you used to do these things while you were in the world, you need to bid farewell to them because you are now a new creature.
Put on a new nature
Leading a holy life doesn’t matter whether you are a Jew or a Gentile, uncircumcised or circumcised, barbaric or not, civilized or uncivilized, slave or not. In this new life, Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us. Once you recognize the fact that Christ resides in you, then you are on course for a glorious ride. Think about it, would you rather pollute a mind where Christ reside or feed it with righteous thoughts? There are a plethora of benefits associated with the presence of Christ in one’s heart.
Join a community of believers
Do you have a living church already or you are contemplating joining one? Either way, leading a holy life becomes easy when you belong to a gathering of like-minded people. In order to make your journey easy, you need to surround yourself with people who share the same ambitions and beliefs as you. There are several churches available around you; so, find one that interests you and start worshipping with them. In due time, you will realize that you’ve done yourself a whole lot of good.
Pray Pray Pray
Never underestimate the powers of prayers because a prayer-less Christian is indeed a powerless Christian. In order to ensure you don’t backslide or suffer a drop in faith, you need to pray often. After all, God is the giver of all things, and you can only do all things through him alone. Have faith in God and pray to him always for grace and power to stay holy because being disciplined, dedicated, and devoted is never enough. And while you pray for grace, don’t forget to give thanks to God for the level of holiness he’s helped you attain.
