After, watching one episode of Tidying up, I proceeded to start assessing for the items that only bring me joy. I finished the folding process also. Over time, I found that my bedroom felt so much more open. In addition, to the openness of my bedroom, I also felt my heart expand. The process begins with being grateful and thanking every item that you have for its usefulness to you. This increase in gratitude allowed me to experience freedom. I have also felt a sense of pride because I love and respect everything that I have.
Time
I am a right on the time or a couple minutes late to everything. Before I started the process this really bothered me. Upon going through my closet, de-cluttering, I discovered that my clothes gave me new life. Finding my clothes are much easier because I can see everything. For a recovering procrastinator, this shift was huge for me. I spent less time agonizing over what I am going to wear as a result so I have more time to actually prepare for my day.
Anxiety relief
Who knew cluttering would have an immediate positive effect on my mental health. My closet no longer overwhelms me, I can inhale so much deeper bringing my soul more peace. My environment is more functional and I’ve taken my power back regarding everything that I own. I have been able to self regulate easier because my life isn’t cluttered anymore. I’ve been able to address other triggers of anxiety because I’ve been able to address the way that it shows up in my home. As a result of being organized, I have seen a reduction in my anxiety which means I get more time to live life!
More joy
When I wake up now, gratitude floods my soul. I have more time to pursue what I love doing. Writing is one of the many things that I have more time for. My words seem to flow out of me as result of clearing space in my home. I am more intentional with my approach to everything that I am doing. I am more sensitive to what gives me joy and what doesn’t. I ask myself on a more continual basis the question: Does this activity spark joy for me? Joy is one of the many attributes that I wanted to cultivate this year. With tidying up, I am on my way there for. More joy is ahead of me. I can just feel it.
Try something new
I am fully embracing new experiences seeing as though I have more time, less anxiety and more joy. After discovering the konmari method, I want to continue to try new things. Taking each day moment by moment with gratitude, I encourage everyone to find a method of de-cluttering that agrees with them. Challenge yourself to see what you can let go of. I know your mind, body and spirit will thank you for it.
