I find that in moments of pain, reflecting on the gift of the pain brings immense gratitude and appreciation. It’s no surprise that those with little, those at the end of their natural lives, those who’ve gained the world and lost it all… often have a unique perspective of gratitude and love for the current. After all, the NOW is all that has, does, or will exist.
The past is a collection of perceived memories that serve to keep us perceptively safe; the future is nothing more than an often hope-filled destination of deliverance or arrival.
When we realize neither actually exist, we are able to step into the beauty of the present… the gift of the love, laughter, pain, sucker punches, and hoists in the air as the hero. It’s all part of the story and the journey. It’s all a gift: the falling of leaves, the birth of a baby, the loss of a loved one, the bending of a guitar string… They all exist to remind you that you are alive, conscious and creating your reality.
So for me, I look internally as to what is triggering my discomfort. Is it comparison? Is it a perceived arrival point I’ve not yet hit? Is it the pain caused by someone I let too close? Is it the depth of love for someone lost? Is it real or perceived? Is it my to own or to let go of? Is it my business or am I trying to understand the business of another, and their feelings, thoughts, and beliefs?
Take a deep breath, maybe 4 or 5. Close your eyes as you breathe.
Relax, and as you do, remind yourself, “what if everything is actually ok?”
