Not that there’s anything wrong with sex, but David Soto discovered life was better when sex wasn’t that big a deal.
“Those who succeed in an outstanding way seldom do so before the age of 40. More often, they do not strike their real pace until they are well beyond the age of 50.” ~ Napoleon Hill, Think and Grow Rich
Don’t get me wrong, I still love sex and plan on (if I’m not already) having lots of it. I’m just over being obsessed by it. I’m over letting it run my life. Men are supposed to reach their sexual peak at the age of 19. I remember being 26 and thinking, “any day now!” I was frustrated with my obsession with sex and how it ran my life. I wanted to get on with my life and divert my efforts to more productive issues. Well, I think it’s finally here— 15 years later!
Here are some things I have noticed over the past year:
I need more of a connection with a woman. Large breasts and a nice ass are great but they alone are not doing it for me any more. I need chemistry, intelligence, and something in common. There have been so many times in the past where I’ve wanted to hang myself on a date because there was obviously no connection but continued on because of the chance that I might get laid. That has come to an end.
Due to years experience of working on myself and dealing with my own issues, I can easily identify any issues a woman has. I see the potential mess I can get myself into. It’s just not worth it anymore.
First kisses tell me a lot more. If there is not electricity there between our lips, there probably isn’t going to be any when our other body parts touch. Again, I used to ignore this but I just can’t anymore.
I won’t do anything I don’t want to do just for a chance of having sex. I don’t have time to go into it here but lets just say I will never accept an invitation to a concert by a hot stripper ever again.
It’s hard to get me out of my apartment once Netflix is on. Dancing, drinks, late dinner all sound great but chances of me turning off “Orange is the New Black” once it’s on, are pretty slim. You have to be one special lady to make that happen.
What are some of the benefits?
I am saving a ton of money. Wait… no, not that! By not being obsessed with sex anymore, I am no longer in a diligent pursuit of it. This means no buying drinks, dinners, cover charges, and a second ticket to anything. I want and look forward to doing these things. It’s just that the right woman hasn’t come along just yet.
I am very productive. Napoleon Hill said that men rarely succeed before 40 because basically, their efforts are concentrated on one thing, sex. When I first read this, at the age of 40, I thought, “Oh thank god!” I am getting a lot of work done and find time to write when ever I want.
My next relationship will be for the right reason. Too may times I have let great sex or the potential for great sex be the foundation of the relationship. As we all know, that foundation usually crumbles. I still want hot passionate sex with a partner. But, now that it’s not a priority, I can make better decision about the relationships I get into.
The very minute I got done writing this article, I was influenced to make, what was probably, the most mature decision I have ever made in my life. You can read about this decision here.
