Just the other day I commented to my husband, as we sped along the highway with three restless, fussy, young children, that we needed a mobile phone app that would locate playgrounds. Then yesterday, Darell Hammond, founder of KaBoom, a nonprofit dedicated to saving play in America, emailed me to let me know that their new free app Playgrounds! is out and ready for use by iPhone and Android users. The parenting gods must have heard me because this app gets an A+ for Awesome.
Through a partnership with Parents magazine, KaBoom has created an app on which you can not only locate playgrounds across America for your tot to run about on, you can also rate them and share your favorites. You can even leave comments and a picture of your little darlings running backward up the slides or swinging so high they touch the tree limbs. The app also allows you to make a play-date with friends. And if you happen to be one of the great explorers of parenthood, with a few simple clicks you can add all the new playgrounds you discover to your map.
Did I mention you can share all your playful discoveries on your social networks as well?
Holy monkey bars Batman!
This makes superhero parenting easy. Now there is simply no excuse to not stop and play … anywhere!
