Are you in debt? If yes, you not alone – I was too. But this is what I’ve done to fix my situation.
Many of us face a debt problem. Sadly, this issue seems to get worse with every passing month as more expenses are added to the existing burden. Interest-related expenses on debt do little to shore up confidence of our personal finances. Like so many others, I too have battled with debt over the years. There are plenty of recommendations from financial management experts including the following:
- Live frugally and fight the urge to splurge your cash.
- If you cannot afford to repay the debt burden within 1 month, don’t spend the money.
- Work to improve your credit score before you approach a lender for a personal loan, business loan, or credit card.
- Shop around for the best credit card APR, preferably a 0% for 12 months – 18 months.
- If you have existing debt, try to transfer that over to a 0% APR credit card, or use a debt consolidation loan at a lower interest rate to reduce your monthly payments.
- Understand what is causing your debt burden to begin with. Most of the time, debt is the result of poorly managed finances. Put a cap on your spending and work hard to repay your outstanding balances.
What Are Some of the Issues That We Face as Debt Increases?
Debt-related problems are not limited to the financial component alone. There are many other facets to consider such as the psychological impact of debt on everyday life. For starters, debt places a burden on interpersonal relationships, and serves as a major distraction to getting things done. Fortunately, financial experts have studied best-practice methodology vis-a-vis getting out of debt and it is entirely possible to construct a workable plan to live debt free.
Debt consolidation loans are by far the best way to address this problem and eliminate the stress of high-interest repayments on existing debt. If you approach a bank or a non-bank lender and apply for a personal loan – a debt consolidation loan – you can repay your high interest (high APR) credit card debt much quicker, and at a lower interest rate. The interest rates associated with personal loans are typically much lower than the interest rates on credit cards and payday loans. It behooves you to consider a debt consolidation loan as a viable alternative to simply accepting your existing credit card debt.
Once you are approved for a debt consolidation loan, you can enjoy lower-interest repayments on the debt and you can pay down the principal of your loan quicker. There is near unanimous consensus across the board that the best way to repay credit card debt is through a debt consolidation loan. Of course, the better your credit score, the more favourable the terms and conditions of the debt consolidation loan. It may seem like an ingenious idea to negotiate with your creditors to reduce the payments that you owe them, but this could negatively impact your credit score and hurt your ability to qualify for lines of credit in the future. That’s certainly the last thing that you want when you are looking to start a family, buy a home, improve your net worth etcetera.
Act Before Interest Rates Become Untenable
Consider that the level of credit card debt now exceeds $1.02 trillion in the US – it’s higher than the 2007/2008 global financial crisis level. Part of the reason why we are seeing such high levels of credit card debt is historically low interest rates. Be advised though – the Fed is increasing the federal funds rate (FFR), and this does not bode well for future payments on credit card debt. Stay ahead of the game and pay down your credit card debt as quickly as possible through debt consolidation loans. You’ll thank the finance gods later for this – foretold is forewarned.
