So, you’re planning a little getaway, and you’ve decided your destination is San Diego, California. Who could blame you? Known for its idyllic weather and the abundance of things to do while visiting, San Diego is an excellent place to travel with kids, solo, or as a romantic getaway. You may be a seasoned traveler and know exactly what to pack no matter the destination, but there are a few things you need to make sure you don’t forget while preparing for your San Diego vacay. So, without further ado, let’s explore them.
Your Credit CardsÂ
Obviously, we bring our credit cards with us virtually every time we leave the house, but the San Diego fashion and style scene is all its own. There are so many excellent shopping destinations to visit while there that you’re going to want to have a zero to low balance when you touch down. Make sure to take advantage of all the unique small businesses and restaurants around La Jolla for a genuinely local experience.
Still, you can have plenty of fun for free in San Diego as well. All street parking is free (phew), as well as enjoying the marvelous beaches and all the wildlife that comes along with it. There’s also easily accessible public transportation in the city, so you don’t have the added expense of renting a car during your stay if you choose not to.
Beach Bum EquipmentÂ
Virtually any time of year, the San Diego weather is phenomenal. While there are a few months out of the year where the water will be too chilly to swim in, it’s comfortable enough to spend a day on the beach, even in the winter months. So pack your flip-flops, bathing suits, coolers, and towels, and don’t forget to shop for a new pair of men’s Gucci sunglasses. Chances are, whether you’re going to San Diego for business, pleasure, or a mix of both, you’re going to be spending quite a bit of time at the oceanfront.
Definitely Bring Your AppetiteÂ
San Diego is known for its eclectic and varied restaurants. Obviously, fresh seafood abounds, but there’s so much more to experience as well as on every budget tier, from fun pizza shops like Blind Lady Ale House to the luxurious Nine-Ten. Not to mention all the ice cream, candy shops, and food trucks you’ll often encounter. And don’t worry, you’ll be burning plenty of calories sightseeing, surfing, and everything in between.
Your Love Of NatureÂ
It goes without saying that when you’re visiting an oceanside community, you’re going to see some amazing marine life. But, the renowned San Diego Zoo is a must experience when you’re in town. No matter your age, this zoo is world-class and a one-of-a-kind experience. Not only is it a zoo, but the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance is also a not-for-profit conservation organization. Not only is there a zoo, but also a wildlife park. Their mission focuses on wildlife health, care, sustainable conservation solutions, science, and education. So when you visit to experience all the natural wonders there, it goes a long way in protecting those wonders for generations to come.
Your Family!
If the trip you’re planning was a family trip, you’re in serious luck as San Diego is such a family-friendly environment. Aside from the aforementioned San Diego Zoo, there’s so much more for young children and teens to enjoy. The Children’s Pool (not an actual pool) is a great place to visit and Birch Aquarium at Scripps. If museums are fun for you and the family, there’s The Maritime Museum Of San Diego and the USS Midway Museum. You also should check out Little Italy, La Jolla Cove (which is a fantastic place to get a chance to see seals, sea lions, and more), as well as breathtaking Balboa Park.
No matter what you decide to do in San Diego or who you’re with, or even if you’re headed there alone, you’re going to have an unforgettable experience. You might even start looking at the real estate before you leave because you’ll get an itch to move there. And, whether you’re packing like a minimalist or have two stuffed suitcases, just make sure you’re also bringing along everything else on this list. Happy Trails!
