It is time for you to bond with the cosmos and not with a cage.

“Birds born in a cage think flying is an illness.” –Alejandro Jodorowsky
Oh that we would daily come to know our fullest potential as humans beings or humans becoming. In my therapeutic work with patients, depending on their diagnosis, I find it of the utmost importance that the patient be fully aware of their potential. I remind them that regardless of the reason that they have found themselves in my office, there is still a reason to be, a reason to become.
We become fully alive and aware when we articulate our potential. It is not enough to know our pathology (what is wrong with us, deficit, mistakes, shortcomings) but we must also note our potentiality (calling, purpose, drives, passion.) For many, what is wrong with us, what we are not, or that we are not good enough has been underscored to us our entire lives. In many cases, it has been strategic imprisonment. Perhaps there were family and friends that treated you a certain way or even raised you in a certain parenting style that naturally made you fearful or intimidated. You might have been born into a family with many siblings and your dreams had to be negated at the expense of the other siblings.
Your life was never meant to be lived in a prison, it was meant to be lived in purpose.

Oftentimes, this causes persons to abandon their sense of personal freedom and the capacity to chase and pursue their dreams. It might be that the horror of it all was not what others did to you or spoke to you. The horror of it all might be that it was self-indoctrination. You convinced yourself because of past failures and personal trauma that you were not worthy to move ahead. You became a prisoner of your circumstances, a prisoner of your past … a caged bird.
The glory of it all is that your purpose has come to visit you today in your prison, your cage. Your purpose speaks to you in your prison and reminds you that there are many more chapters to be written in your book called Life. Whatever happened is your past has passed. Today is a brand new day. When you see others soaring, they have reached deep within inside themselves and declared their very being and essence to be sacred space. The ability to fly and soar and claim new found territory is within their grasp. Your life was never meant to be lived in a prison, it was meant to be lived in purpose. A cage will never suffice; your dwelling place is in the cosmos, the world-wide stage. A place where not only your gifts make room for you, but your gifts make room for all.
Yes, I very well understand that there are those that will say that it is instinctual and innate for birds to fly. That is most definitely true. However when a bird is caged something goes awry. It becomes accustomed to its environment and setting. I vividly recall this comical story while growing up. My father had given my mother lovebirds for Valentine’s Day. The lovebirds hung in a birdcage in the family. They would chirp and sing the entire day. My sisters and I thought the birds were beautiful and romantic. However, my mother did not. The birds would chirp while she was listening to her soap operas. One day one of the birds died. No one ever knew why. The bird that was left alone no longer chirped as much but it did still chirp.
One day the bird somehow was able to get the door to the cage open and began to fly through the house. My sisters and I were running through the house trying to capture it. But oddly enough, why did our mother run to the front door and hold it open trying to get the bird out of the house? That was hilarious! The bird fell for it and flew out the front door to freedom. He probably lasted every bit of five minutes in the wild, for his flight was for the cage and not for the world. At least did give it a try and our mother was finally able to enjoy her soap operas.
Let not one interrupt your pursuit of your dreams. Your destiny awaits you.

Let not one interrupt your pursuit of your dreams. Your destiny awaits you. All that you need is within. Like that little bird in our family room some three decades ago, you might not see the big picture or your destiny, but the least you could do is give it a try. The world waits. The world has come calling for you. It is time for you to bond with the cosmos and not with a cage. Your time has come.
“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” –Howard Thurman
