No Matter What You Believe These Kids Make Father’s Day Special
–
There’s no denying this video is adorable as all get out! This family who adopted two children are now anxiously awaiting another arrival give us all hope for humanity.
As a mom of boys who does a lot of work to help eradicate fatherlessness, it made me wonder. Are those who call on God to help fill the father gap getting what they need or is this just us being hopefully religious?
In no way would I ever mock religion, especially since I grew up in a preacher’s house and I’m a believer in my own faith based religion. Instead I wanted to plant some food for thought as we head into this Father’s Day weekend . Many will quote scripture about God being a father to the fatherless but as much as that is a measure of hope what people need to know is that is only the beginning. Religious or not, without an action plan to implement the necessary components that are missing in children’s lives, fatherless kids will simply remain “father empty” on the inside.
As a single mom, I know I have a responsibility to provide my kids with good role models of both sexes just as single dads do. I also know that role models don’t always just jump off of a page and say “hey, I’m here.” It gets tiring and some days you just want to scream but the kids didn’t ask to be here. They do ask for love and guidance in how to live life in a healthy way. We all, especially through our extended circles can be a part of making sure to fill in the gap to help kids be “fatherful.”
No matter what your belief system is, the kids in this video got it right when they talked about their adoptive dad being their “really dad” and there are a lot of great pinch hitting men in this world who are there to support our children. My hope is that regardless of the path chosen, we help all kids transition from fatherless to fatherful.
