Jason Silva brings us a a ‘two-minute shot of philosophical espresso.’
This is the latest video in Jason Silva’s series of “Ecstatic Meditations,” as he calls them. Inspired by David Deutsch’s new book, The Beginning of Infinity, it takes a look co-evolution of humans and technology. Click play and hold on for a wild two minutes:
After the video went live, Reason TV interviewed Jason to discuss how drugs helped invent the Internet and how technology is psychedelic. Give it a listen:
—
I don’t think Dr. James Watson and Dr. Francis Crick were in an acid trip when they discovered the double helix structure of the DNA, but I know Karry Mullis invented his Polymerase Chain Reaction Machine during a trip.
Mankind’s most prominent trait is self-deception.
Jason Silva takes the words of eco-philosophers out of context and strips their nuanced, ego-diminishing revelations to peddle the same Faustian Progress Prop that we spent the whole 20th Century fighting to transcend. I’m disappointed to see a blog that emphasizes maturity and responsibility cave to the charismatic thrill of this self-professed “media personality” who never once mentions the extraordinary importance of cultivating our wisdom in tandem with our technology…
I saw Jason’s “Beginning of Infinity” a few weeks ago and it blew me away. I watched it three times. I made friends watch it. His technology/real world literacy is powerful and influential. He seems to see from a distance, from above, the confluence of topics that confound many of us from within. I want that. I can’t wait for his feature film.
