This was originally introduced as a way to debunk enablers of sexual assault. And it is.
But more importantly, it visually spells out every argument about sexual assault and then sums them up in “a three word sentence made up of two words.”
Any questions?

Thank you to wisekelp for this amazing piece of work.

Love to see in graphics. Agreed with your statement, JJ Vincent.
Unfortunately, in addition to Gender, Sexuality and Age, Ethnicity needs to be added.
This is demeaning and offensive to men. And your intended audience, the small minority of sociopathic violent abusers, could care less. The only purpose this constant drumbeat of misinformation accomplishes is the never ending hype of the bogus “rape culture”. You pander to the brainwashing technique of “I’m hearing it all the time, so it must be true”. The Nazis were very good at this too.
Al, there are 2 kinds of rapists; psychopathic rapist, and “mistake” rapist. Psychopathic rapist is the type that will go out with an intent to do damage to a victim. It’s true that this type of rapist will not be swayed by education regarding consent. The “mistake” rapist is someone who doesn’t have a good understanding of consent, and who probably wouldn’t rape if s/he was better educated about what consent actually is. These are people who can and will make better choices when they are more aware of themselves and others around them. These are also the majority of… Read more »
I’m a rape victim. Chart says so. Chart never lies. Ever
@ Josh The conversation I was referencing would have been rape by ANY definition of the term. It was a guy who got “wasted” in college, retired to his room. A coed friend of his who he had no romantic feelings for entered his room and started to have sex with him. He told her no several times, but the combination of alcohol and exhaustion and to some extent the fact that they were friends IMO prevented him from “fighting her off”. Still he only viewed it as a disgusting and screwed up experience until we got into a discussion… Read more »
John I have no doubt about people being too anibrihated to make clear and calculated desicions. But it is dangreous then for liberty to then conflate the rape of some who had abused a drug (and alcohol is by strict definition a drug) and therefore could not have made consent by making absolutes about alcohol and sex. Being drunk is not an integer. There are inifinite stages of drunkeness. To add further blurrieness to the lines, if we are going to use ‘the victim was drunk’ as a procecution then we also have to extend the possibility of ‘the defence… Read more »
So, Drunk People cannot give Consent, but then how is it that “Drunk Man Tells No Lies”????
If people can say in ANY OTHER CIRCUMSTANCE that Alcohol or Being an Alcoholic is No Excuse to get a Pass for Mean Words or Violence, it is for Not being able to Have Sex- yet Teens and even Committed Couples- especially Married Ones- do so…………… Sounds and looks like Cherry-Picking to me
You left your door open, so its really your fault that i robbed you.
Sorry for necroing but it must be said. In Japan, people can just leave their cell phones on tables as a way to reserve tables while they buy food. If it gets stolen, you know whose at fault, it’s the robbers fault. In Canada, it’s not uncommon for people to leave their doors unlocked. If their homes get robbed, you know whose at fault, it’s the robbers fault. By your logic, being murdered is the victim’s fault because they intrinsically have life. Murder after all is taking another person’s life, just like how robbery is taking another person’s valuables, just… Read more »
There is one thing I’d like to point out. I’ve noticed in some feminist discussions they’ve decided to de-gender rape. To some extent I see that as a good thing. To another extent I wonder if that still doesn’t hurt make victims. Many men have said that they couldn’t see their own victimization by women because men were always portrayed as the abusers and women as the victims. They viewed themselves as an anomaly and therefor caused them to think it was a failing on their part. I think we need to consider what the dominant social narrative / stereotype… Read more »
First of all, kudos for presenting a gender-neutral graphic about rape, JJ. But you do in fact leave an important question unanswered. I honestly don’t know what you’re saying when you say it “doesn’t matter if the person is drunk or unconscious, rape is rape.” The statement is completely ambiguous and can be taken a number of different ways, with radically different implications. Let me explain. There was recently a conference of MRAs, and one of their speakers was a comedian. This comic told an apparently true story from his college days about the time he got a call from… Read more »
Hi 5! Good to see the diversity.
Perfect. All of those victim blaming scenarios are just ways for people to convince themselves that rape could never happen to them if they just do all the “right” things. And villifying people who desperately need support is not an acceptable way to comfort ourselves.
I think George Will would disagree. I think he’d be wrong.
This is fantastic!!!
LOVE the gender-diverse graphics. Thanks for sharing this, JJ.
