I Am A Patriot
Although I consider this column the “intersection of socio-politics, modern masculinity, and fatherhood,” rarely do I ever use this space to wax overtly political.
Yet today, I’m going to.
I first want to say I’m a patriot. I love the United States of America, and I’m proud to be a son of this nation.
I also want to say I believe in the ideals of America as set forth by the immigrant Founding Fathers, and the founding fathers and mothers before them as the indigenous First Nations.
I believe in democracy as the foundation for our governance and civic cohesion, and that it is both an ever-changing experiment in which we must all participate in order to keep it functioning.
I also believe that our nation is itself an experiment in freedom and liberty, and that each of us should hold those principles in the highest gratitude for what they grant us in so many ways every single day.
I also want to stay that I’ve voted for Democrats, Republicans, Independents, Green Party, and Libertarians. For many years, I was a registered Independent. I’ve always voted for the individual whom I believe is the most qualified and fit to serve. I’ve always voted for country over party.
So, today, on the eve of our country’s election, I hope and pray that everyone votes with the aim to keep this grand experiment alive and thriving. I hope that whomever wins this presidential election leads with dignity, confidence, and with the mandate that our country deserves. The mandate that each of us as citizens of this great nation deserves. Freedom. Liberty. Hope.
