Before 2020, my life was fast-paced, spent in the hustle and bustle of Gurgaon. I lived with my brother in a small 1 BHK apartment, juggling work and city life. Days were packed with office hours, long commutes, and the constant noise of the city. Life was moving at full speed — until COVID-19 changed everything.
In March 2020, when the lockdown was announced, I packed my bags and returned to my village, thinking it would be temporary. My company allowed work from home, so I set up my workstation in a quiet corner of my house.
Quite and Beautiful Mornings
Waking up to fresh air, the sound of birds instead of honking traffic, and seeing the sunrise from my window instead of high-rise buildings made me realize what I had been missing. I started taking morning walks in the fields, feeling the soft dew beneath my feet, watching farmers start their day, and soaking in the peace that city life never offered.
Morning Tea with My Grandfather
One of the best parts was spending time with my grandfather. Over tea, he would share stories of his youth, his struggles, and his wisdom. We had endless debates — especially about politics — but it was all in good fun. Being his first granddaughter, he spoiled me in small ways, bringing me bread for my sandwiches, knowing they were my favorite.
Field Visits
Days passed, and I embraced village life completely. I would visit the fields, watching crops sway in the wind, breathing in the fresh air, and feeling grateful for nature’s beauty. The sense of community here was heartwarming — people truly cared for each other. Everyone helped one another, whether in celebrations or tough times, something rare in city life.
Seasonal Berries
Fruits from the fields, especially berries, are nature’s little treasures. Fresh, juicy, and packed with nutrients, they bring a burst of flavor and health benefits. Depending on the season, fields are filled with strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries, each offering a unique taste. The best part? Knowing they come straight from the earth, untouched by chemicals, and full of goodness. Nothing beats the taste of freshly picked berries!
Rainy Season
The rainy season is my absolute favorite! There’s something magical about the dark clouds rolling in, the cool breeze, and the sound of raindrops hitting the ground. The first rain brings with it the soothing fragrance of wet mud — an earthy scent that feels refreshing and nostalgic.
I love watching the rain pour down, making everything look so fresh and alive. Trees appear greener, the air feels cleaner, and the whole world seems to slow down for a while. And the best part? When the rain stops, the sky sometimes gifts us a beautiful rainbow — a mesmerizing mix of colors that feels like nature’s artwork.
After the rain, everything looks spotless — the streets, the trees, even the rooftops. There’s a sense of calm and purity in the air, making the world feel brand new. It’s a season of peace, beauty, and joy, and I cherish every drop of it!
Family Gathering
Celebrations here were simple yet meaningful. Birthdays and anniversaries weren’t about fancy parties but about togetherness. We cooked together, ate as a family, danced, and clicked pictures, creating memories that felt more valuable than any extravagant gathering in City.
Evening Walks and Sunset
Evenings became my favorite. I would take walks, capturing the sunset, sometimes accompanied by my little nephew Vansh (5 years) and niece Vanshika(3years). Their laughter and excitement made everything more special.
The Night
At night, I sit outside, gazing at the sky — the moon and the stars shining brightly, making everything feel magical. This is my moment of peace. I also spend time talking with my mother, reminiscing about our past struggles — how we used to work in the fields, make bricks, and walk 5 km to school. We did house and field chores, then studied together at night.
Now, all my siblings are married except me. My mother sometimes worries about when I’ll find a life partner so she can feel relieved of her responsibilities. I understand her concerns, but I know everything will happen at the right time.
Living with family is truly a blessing. The love, care, and togetherness make life in a village incredibly special.
Now, years later, I’m still working from home, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. What started as a temporary stay turned into a life I love. The city had its charm, but the peace, love, and simplicity of village life captured my heart. Sometimes, life takes unexpected turns, and this one led me to exactly where I was meant to be.
