Some people seem quiet on the outside. The kind who sit with their iced Americano a little too long. Who stare out of windows like they’re trying to remember a song from another lifetime. People who nod a lot in conversations and talk just enough not to seem rude.
I am one of them.
You’d think I’m peaceful. Balanced. The kind of person who has their life together in neat, folded piles. But inside, it’s a thunderstorm. My mind doesn’t sit still. It rearranges memories, rewrites conversations, and plans three versions of every tomorrow. It spins and spins, like a washing machine that doesn’t quite know when to stop.
And my heart, it’s a kaleidoscope. Everything all at once. Too many colors. Too many feelings. Some of them are not even mine. It breaks for strangers. It holds onto love longer than it should. It remembers birthdays it shouldn’t and grieves people who never really stayed.
Some days, I am a walking contradiction. Calm soul. Chaotic mind. A heart that feels too much in a world that wants you to feel nothing.
Sometimes, when the noise gets too loud, I sit still. Not to escape the chaos, but to remind myself that I am more than it. That even a storm has a quiet center. And even a kaleidoscope, no matter how jumbled, creates patterns worth looking at.
So if you ever meet someone who seems quiet, don’t assume they’re simple. They might just be busy surviving their own depth.
And if you are one of us, like calm on the outside, chaos on the inside types, then know this: you’re not broken. You’re just layered. Like music. Like poetry. Like all the best things are.
