“We’re all just out here trying to make ordinary days feel a little less ordinary.”
Like Jean-Michel Basquiat once said,
“Art is how we decorate space. Music is how we decorate time.“
So add a little color, a little sound… and have yourself a great day.
I know I should work out consistently to keep my six-pack. I’ve known for years. I’ve read the articles. Listened to podcasts. Downloaded the apps. Bought the supplements. What I haven’t done? Actually worked out consistently.
Me and my neighbour Steve and I have spent months talking about resurrecting his Dad’s old Charger. We’ve scouted original Mopar trim on eBay and built color-coded restoration blueprints for the engine bay. We’ve watched hundreds of hours of ‘engine-first-start’ videos and have a shelf full of Eastwood rust encapsulator and torque wrenches. What we haven’t done? Turned a single bolt.
My coworker Marcus has been wanting to “invest in stocks” since idk when. He listens to finance podcasts. He can quote P/E ratios and expense ratios for every major Vanguard ETF, yet he doesn’t even have a high-yield savings account to his name. He has a library of finance memoirs and a $0 brokerage balance. He’s a walking encyclopedia of wealth with a wallet full of dust.
This is the gap between knowing and doing. And it’s where most good intentions go to die… And you know what I’ve realized lately? We confuse consuming information with taking action. I watch a video about productivity and feel productive. I didn’t do anything. I just learned about doing things. That’s not the same.
Well, what I’ve also realized is: You’ll never feel ready. You’ll never have all the information. You’ll never have the perfect plan. The gap between effort and experience is filled with fear, discomfort, and resistance. So, set a deadline. Not for more planning. For the first mov. Start badly. Start scared. Start imperfectly.
Just start, my friend.
