I Just Don’t Give a Sh*t Anymore …

You probably remember the famous experiment involving overcrowded rats. When rats were stuck in an overcrowded pen with lots of other rats, they started turning on each other, biting and snapping. They became vicious. They felt trapped and got angry and mean. Or… they withdrew.

These miserable, hateful rats remind me of the brutal mean-spiritedness and viciousness of our end-stage capitalist ‘economic system’ — which is really just a widespread, supposedly ‘acceptable’ system of legitimized oppression and intensifying economic abuse.

These vicious rats also remind me of the snarling voices and hateful actions of Trump’s MAGA followers, who are (and have been) turning on their fellow Americans — immigrants, progressives, ‘socialists,’ LGBTQ+ folks, pregnant women, universities, the CDC, the media — and even on each other. Angry, hateful abusers and sadists who think they’re ‘patriots.’ Hah!

It’s all just… sickening. It’s all too much. Way too much.

Too much hate. Too much cruelty. Too much racism and misogyny. Too much bullshit. Too much hypocrisy. Too many lies. And not nearly enough love or wisdom or compassion. Or truth-telling.

I’ve had it. I am so done with these arrogant, heartless assholes. I am done with the vast, selfish majority of Americans. I am done with this nation, itself, since it seems to churn out an endless flood of ignorance, arrogance, and heartlessness. (That’s the wondrous, creepy “American Way”!)

I am done with this “greatest nation in the world” that struts and preens and declares itself the height of civilization — when it is nowhere close to meeting that standard. In reality, the US is much more like a vicious anti-society and anti-civilization.

It’s all a vast pile of reeking, disgusting shit. And I’d have to be a total fool not to see it — and be repelled and horrified by it.

The US is NOT improving, it’s getting steadily worse

I’ve spent a lot of time over the past five years writing about and ‘diagnosing’ the apparently intractable problems and deficiencies of the US, in its current despicable form. And over that period, almost every single problem or deficiency has gotten worse — sometimes much worse. That’s why I suddenly decided that the entire system and all its ramifications and sub-systems are truly intractable and hopeless. It needs to go. It needs to collapse and die.

It’s a shitty, inhumane social and economic system that seems bent only on endless, mindless ‘growth.’ It always, always protects and replicates itself — which ensures our accelerating self-destruction. It’s a deeply shitty system that has no clue how shitty and backward it is… and therefore, it is very hard, and getting ever harder, to love or defend this bankrupt (morally and literally) system.

For me, it’s gotten SO hard that I finally gave up. This system is SO shitty and SO corrupt and mean-spirited that I cannot, in good conscience, support any aspect of it.

The entire system is wrong-headed and destructive, and a huge part of its wrong-headedness is that it stubbornly refuses all positive change. Our system pretends to embrace change and pretends it is open to/eager for change, but in reality, it stays deeply ‘stuck’ in its dark, destructive patterns and has NO interest at all in making real, substantive changes.

Sick, destructive systems need to GO

So, I’ve finally wised up. I finally ‘got’ the essence of this sick, twisted system… and see clearly that it is beyond healing or redemption. It is desperately sick and mindlessly, passionately destructive. As it flails and keeps following the same old destructive path, it is showing us all — daily, hourly, endlessly — that it truly IS a crazy, shitty system.

And shitty, crazy systems do not deserve our respect or our allegiance. Enough is enough.

I’m done. I just don’t give a shit anymore about what passes for ‘life’ and ‘society’ in the &%#(@! (Dis)united States. The entire repulsive system is on its way out. And all I can say, at this point, is:

Good riddance!

Postscript: I will keep writing because I enjoy expressing myself and exploring issues. But I am under no illusion that my writing will influence the course of events or help steer the US on a more positive course. It’s too late for that; the damage is done, the Titanic already hit the iceberg — and the outcome is now inevitable.
