Rick Sanchez has observed that passions get aroused around Thanksgiving — people getting indignant that some businesses stay open and employees work. He has something to say about the hypocrisy.

It’s that time of year again.
That time of the year when we start to look at the world and realize how unfair it can be. We start to ramp up our charitable nature. We look for ways to give back and jump on myriad bandwagons hoping to ease the pain for those who do not have some of the things we have.
We donate to church plates that arrange for a needy family to get a Thanksgiving Day meal or volunteer at soup kitchens. We get backpacks ready to pass out to the homeless packed with toiletries and clean socks. And most of all, we back as many of the Facebook “like and share” memes that we can.
“Like and Share” this picture of a Pilgrim if you want to send Thanksgiving thoughts to the soldiers stationed over seas.
“Like and Share” this picture of a Native American to show support of those who were pushed out of their native land in favor of progress.
“Like and Share” this picture of Target’s Bulls eye logo with a circle and line through it to say NO to corporations who want to open for business on Thanksgiving Day.
We “Like and Share” that WAY more than others. We grandstand and rail against people having to break away from the family get-together to go work their shift at the local Target or WalMart…
But let’s be honest.
We are a little arrogant. We get on our high horses about stores opening and clerks working instead of being with their families — but that’s a little dishonest, isn’t it?
We want people to work on Thanksgiving, but for some reason, just not those people — Why not?
We want our policemen to work to keep us safe on Thanksgiving and we want our firemen on duty when we start the garage on fire with our careless use of the turkey fryer.
And doctors, nurses and hospital staff better be there if we get hurt, right?
We want our Baristas making our lattes in the morning. We want our gas station attendants to be there when we stop to fill up before we make the trip over the river and through the woods to Grandmas house. We would also like very much if the hostesses, cooks, waiters, table bussers, dishwashers and car valets showed up at the restaurant so we didn’t have to mess up our own houses with a big meal prep and clean up.
Oo, oo, and the people who work at the TV stations, they need to show up. And everyone over at Macys, what ith the parade going on, they should punch a clock. And especially, ESPECIALLY, football players, and coaches, and cameramen, and referees, and beer vendors, and that guy who hawks foam fingers out front of the stadium…They better show up! The Big Thanksgiving Day Matchup is on and our hometown team is the favorite.
Just not the clerks and stockers at Target or Sears.
For some reason it is inhumane and un-American to make them work. We want people to work on Thanksgiving, but for some reason, just not those people — Why not?
“Like and Share” if you have a good reason.

Except some of those services like doctors, policemen, paramedics, etc. are CAREERS that people STRIVE to obtain that are respectable and honored for the sacrifice, and the other is a simple person working for the sake of consumerism to keep a roof over their head and food on the table. If you get into a terrible car accident on Thanksgiving, you hope your life is saved by someone who is working for the good of the community and understands it. If you break a plate and need a new one on Thanksgiving, you wait until tomorrow. There is a huge… Read more »
