What will Johnny Football do now?
—
After months of speculation, the Johnny Manziel show has finally been canceled. After two failed seasons, the Cleveland Browns had no choice, but to release him and figure what they will do to fill the most important role on the field, quarterback.
Manziel will have to figure out what he will do to get back into the league, so he doesn’t have to retire the moniker that made him famous, “Johnny Football.”
A star before he even proved it on the field, Johnny Manziel used his fame, good looks and especially his family’s wealth to advance farther than any average quarterback ever has.
Here are 5 things Johnny’s money will no longer buy.
1. – The Hype of a Star.
Johnny’s antics and larger than life personality gave him the opportunity to be drafted in the first round by the Cleveland Browns, but did nothing on the field. Now that time has passed, he will join the ranks of countless quarterbacks like Jamarcus Russell and Tim Couch, quarterbacks that were drafted #1, but couldn’t transfer the hype to success.
2. – A Chance to Make his Mark.
Blake Bortles, Teddy Bridgewater, and Derek Carr were drafted the same year as Manziel and have made significant improvements for their teams. Manziel, on the other hand, had one of the worst quarterback rankings in the 2015 season.
3. – Girlfriend Troubles.
Manziel wasn’t able to keep his girlfriend Colleen Crowley from filing a restraining order alleging to assault and kidnapping charges.
4. – A Spot on any Team.
It looks like Manziel will have to find other employment options since it doesn’t look like any NFL team will take the risk, or, endure the headache to resurrect his short career.
5. – Character
The main reason why Manziel is out of football is because of his character. Being a good guy is important. Look at Tim Tebow. Although Tim Tebow’s career suffered a similar fate, he came in with more hype than Manziel, was a Heisman trophy winner and an NCAA champion, but he didn’t have enough talent to compete in the NFL. Tebow, drafted by the Broncos was given a second chance primarily because of his character. He was a good guy in the locker room, worked hard and had strong moral values. Manziel, on the other hand, has been accused of being a liar, and a party boy and there is the incident with his girlfriend. Money can’t buy character and it will not be able to buy him another chance in the NFL.
