This week, we celebrated our freedom as a nation.
That freedom means many things to many people, and we articulate that in many different ways.
This picture represents the greatest freedom I’ve experienced.
This is my soon-to-be wife…. and my ex-wife.
6 months ago, we could only converse through attorneys.
Today, we all celebrated as one big family.
As we live in a small town, there were a lot of looks… whispers… stares…
Confusion. Assumption. Pondering.
All of it was welcome, because our families are experiencing the greatest freedom we’ve known.
The freedom from ego.
The freedom from fighting.
The freedom from gossip.
The freedom from posturing.
The freedom from being “right.”
The freedom from the status quo.
6 months ago, this was as far from reality as you could imagine…
Today… Freedom.
I can tell you this:
On the other side of whatever you’re trying to prove…
On the other side of your need to feel validated…
On the other side of your need to “win” and be “right”…
There is freedom.
Freedom to laugh.
Freedom to share a meal together.
Freedom to show your children that divorce doesn’t have to mean tug of war.
Freedom to create a family dynamic that makes people scratch their heads.
Challenge the norm, friends.
And Happy Independence Day.
