Fist Fight has a strong concept but too many bad jokes which really hurt this film
I see so many comedies lately that they tend to blend together. To stand out they have to somehow be different from the rest. Films like Bad Moms and Neighbors 2 were able to achieve this goal last year. When I heard of Fist Fight I was a little hesitant but decided to give it a shot. Here is what I thought of this new comedy.
You can read the plot for Fist Fight here:
On the last day of the year, mild-mannered high school English teacher Andy Campbell (Charlie Day) is trying his best to keep it together amidst senior pranks, a dysfunctional administration, and budget cuts that put jobs on the line. But things go from bad to worse when he accidentally crosses his much tougher and deeply feared colleague, Ron Strickland (Ice Cube), who challenges Campbell to an old-fashioned throw down after school.
I didn’t like Fist Fight that much. It wasn’t much different from most of the comedies I have seen recently. It reminded me of Dirty Grandpa and Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, films that tried way too hard to be funny. This comedy has a good cast and a strong concept but this wasn’t enough to make this a comedy worth seeing. The only saving grace was the ending which wrapped everything up in a nice bow. Fist Fight gets 4/10. I had some big issues with this comedy. For starters the swearing became overhaul for me real fast. It was like every other word had to be a curse word, which was unnecessary in my opinion. There were also too many zany situations that only had me rolling my eyes, not making me laugh like they were supposed to. It is a comedy some people will enjoy, but most people will want to miss this one.
Fist Fight comes out this Friday. You can follow this film on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
