Singer-songwriter Kenyth (formerly Kenyth Mogan) released a personal and thought-provoking acoustic song, Holy Water (Basement Acoustic Recording), written by Canadian singer-songwriter Tim Feehan and international chart-topping pop icon Tiffany yesterday. Holy Water is a follow up to from the success of Kenyth’s 2015 LGBT Wizard of Oz themed music video Unlock Your Heart and Real Me, the 2017 single featured in the soundtrack of the Del Shores directed film A Very Sordid Wedding.
Unlock has been viewed nearly two million times since its release.
Tiffany is well known for her number one mega-hit single I Think We’re Alone Now and international albums spanning four decades—Tiffany penned this raw and personal track with fellow singer-songwriter Freehan. It’s a more mature sound than his previous forays.
Kenyth says: “The song is about a loved one struggling with addiction. It’s something I feel a lot of people can relate to, especially those connected to the LGBT community, be it from their own personal experience or by witnessing a loved one who might be going through a dark time.”
Kenyth has always loved Tiffany. “I don’t remember how (or from who) I first heard her demo for Holy Water, but I loved it instantly, and couldn’t wait for her to release it. When I first started recording music, I reached out and asked if I could record it, and I got the okay, but the problem was, that it just didn’t fit with the other projects.”
According to Kenyth, “Fall Apart was too cartoony, Love was too mushy, and I refused to have it be an also-ran/throw-away song. It’s too good. When I first started to rebrand myself, Holy Water was the first song I knew I wanted to do, so I reached out again to see if recording it was a possibility. I am so honored and excited that they allowed me the opportunity to record it.
Freehand and Tiffany’s song has allowed Mogan to build on his own personal sound and hone his musical direction, “something I am ready for after years of being referred to as the ‘cute gay geek.’ In the current political climate, the time for rainbow kisses and unicorn stickers has passed and I’m really excited to introduce people to my new sound.”
Feehan says of Kenyth: “He brings a fresh and unique take on Holy Water, a song I’ve always wanted to hear recorded as I envisioned it should be, and he nails it! From the drama of the understated verses to the bold intensity of the chorus, it’s a roller coaster ride of emotion. I’m a fan!”
With the music video in pre-production for an early 2019 release, this special acoustic release of Holy Water performed by Kenyth and features fellow LGBT artist Zee Machine on the track.
Holy Water (Basement Acoustic Mix) is available from November 30th, 2018 on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and all online retailers.
