This is what happens when 6 young people stop following the rules and start being real.
Can anyone tell me what that’s from? Anyone?

Non-traditional prom news has been big this year. Straight guy invites his gay buddy. Proms for special needs teens across the country. Twitter-dare dates. Grandfathers finally getting to go to the big dance. Permission slips for dresses. A stolen goat used for a promposal (this is not a joke).
What we’re not hearing about is much deviation from the tux-for-boys-dresses-for-girls norms. Maybe it’s not newsworthy anymore…but I sincerely doubt it. I guess it’s just not being done much, especially boys in “girl clothes”, or else we’d be hearing about it, if for no other reason that a lot of schools would probably not allow a young man in a formal dress, or any dress, into The Big Night.
And with 24/7 socialinstragramatwitterbookmedia, that wouldn’t stay quiet for long.
Enter MTV News. They’ve put together a video with several young adults of various gender identities and presentations to put on and talk about what they would have worn to prom and why. Forget the “shoulds” and “supposed tos”. Their message is about who they are and just as importantly, how they felt about themselves and these fashions the first time around. As Alex says, “Prom is a once-in-a-lifetime moment that to many people get taken away from [them].”
This is what prom could look like if people could get over what’s expected and allow kids to express themselves, to get a little weird and wild. The whole event is a costume party for most of the party goers. Why not give the rest of them the chance to be out of costume, just for one night?
