‘The Florida Project’ takes viewers on an interesting journey
I enjoy a good drama every once in a while. It isn’t my go to genre, but if the film is done right I can end up really liking it. I knew little going into The Florida Project, besides that Willem Dafoe was in it. He has done some great roles lately so I decided to give this film a shot. It certainly wasn’t what I expected it to be. I was able to get a review copy and this is my thoughts on it.
You can read the plot for The Florida Project here:
On a stretch of highway just outside the most magical place on earth, six-year-old Moonee and her ragtag band of playmates spend an unforgettable summer at The Magic Castle, a budget motel managed by Bobby. Bobby’s stern exterior hides a deep reservoir of kindness and compassion as he watches over the kids’ adventures, protecting them from some of the harsher realities of life.
I didn’t like The Florida Project that much. It was weird to me, and some of the characters were pretty unlikable. At times the story was slow and at other times it was obvious what was going to happen next. I wasn’t a fan of the ending either, it felt rushed and didn’t make much sense. The best thing about this movie was Willem Dafoe. He was wonderful as Bobby, wearing many different hats and always doing his best to try to keep this place running. There are also some good ‘Cast and Crew Interviews’ as well an an alright ‘Gag and Outtake Reel’. I am sure some people will enjoy this film, it just wasn’t for me.
The Florida Project arrives on Blu-Ray and DVD Tuesday February 20th. You can follow this movie on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
