Say it ain’t so. HBO’s brilliant New Orleans based series is coming to a close after four great years. How will the story of Treme, a neighborhood dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, end? Probably not with Kanye and G.W. hugging it out, but you never know; well, that’s not true. We’ll all know after the last episode airs on December 29.

I love Treme. I don’t watch a lot of TV, but this one is special. Its been a super rich combination of real life drama (the aftermath of Katrina, the use of catastrophe capitalism to move out the poor and non-white population, etc.), personal stories of love and loss, the food and culture of New Orleans, and the music, the music, the music. I did think the first and second season were the best and its lost some of the edge. The John Goodman character and his mounting frustration, anger, and depression were the most engaging for me.
