Six years ago we decided to “spark an international conversation about what it means to be a good man in the 21st century”—and what a conversation we started. Over 3 million people from every country in the world visit goodmenproject.com each month to read our content. We’ve looked at the changing roles of men, as well as the stereotypes of men that persist in our culture, and how that affects all of the major issues of our day. It’s called “The Conversation No One Else is Having” for a reason—-no other media company in the world is talking about how men’s roles are changing and what the implications are. We started a conversation. We’ve built a community. We created a movement.
The Good Men Project is a Participatory Media Company—we not only provide content you can read and share but we offer a multitude of ways you can actually participate in the all-important conversation about the changing roles of men in the 21st century. Now, we are proud to announce the plan to roll-out Social Interest Groups and Task Forces. This is a transformative new initiative that will take our conversation to the next level by forming communities that are organized around particular issues.
Each Social Interest Group will have: (1) A clearly defined problem that we actually think we can help solve; (2) A clear group of people we want to change; and (3) A way of measuring results. The idea is to provide conversation and community, and ultimately—change.
The groups will get together for a weekly phone conference call for one hour every week, so you can talk to other members of the community and share ideas. Then, in between calls, an email thread will connect the community and allow further communication with the other members.
This group—Stereotypes for Lunch—will identify the most problematic negative stereotypes that men face today, examine why they have been a part of our culture for so long, and put a plan in place for how to change or eradicate them. It will be led by GMP Publisher and CEO, Lisa Hickey.
What kind of stereotypes are we talking about here? Oh, you know, the stereotypes about men like these:
— Men only like sex, sports and beer.
— Men are are not as engaged nor as competent parents.
— Financial success is the end all be all for manhood.
— Men aren’t capable of deep friendships or relationships.
— Men don’t express emotions.
—Men can’t be victims.
There are many more—come with your ideas!
Our ‘Eat Stereotypes for Lunch’ group will be held Tuesdays at 2 pm EST / 11 am PST and will run for 5 weeks starting on November 1st, 2016.
(You can join in any week—you do not have to attend from the start)

“Here’s the thing about The Good Men Project. We are trying to create big, sweeping, societal changes—overturn stereotypes, eliminate racism, sexism, homophobia, be a positive force for good for things like education reform and the environment. And we’re also giving individuals the tools they need to make individual change—-with their own relationships, with the way they parent, with their ability to be more conscious, more mindful, and more insightful. For some people, that could get overwhelming. But for those of us here at The Good Men Project, it is not overwhelming. It is simply something we do—we do it with teamwork, with compassion, with an understanding of systems and how they work, and with shared insights from a diversity of viewpoints.”– Lisa Hickey, Publisher of The Good Men Project and CEO of Good Men Media Inc.
