In 2023, nationwide fraud losses topped $10 billion. This was a 14% increase to reported losses the year prior and brought up a critical need for consumer protection from digital scams and diverse forms of fraud. Samuel Levine, the director of the Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, said: “Digital tools are making it easier than ever to target hard-working Americans, and we see the effects of that in the data we’re releasing today.” Certain populations are more vulnerable to fraud such as elderly people and those with physical or mental impairment that prevents them from handling their finances – $3.4 billion of the aforementioned fraud losses were from elderly victims alone. A major issue is a lack of education nationwide about the risks we take every time we share personal information online and perform digital transactions. It’s more essential than ever for consumers to practice safe online habits and stay well-informed about trending threats.
Monisola Aina is an experienced financial technology professional with nearly a decade of fraud prevention, payment system integration, and regulatory compliance in her back pocket. Her commitment to strengthening security and trust in digital transactions has led her to leverage machine learning and AI alongside cutting-edge analytics in attempt to contend with complex forms of fraud. More than anything, Monisola’s goal is to foster a safer and more trustworthy digital payment ecosystem for both businesses and consumers.
“Imagine a system that doesn’t just flag suspicious transactions but understands the intricate contextual nuances of each payment interaction,” Monisola explains. “An AI model that can distinguish between genuine consumer behavior and sophisticated fraud attempts with a level of precision that was unimaginable just five years ago. This isn’t about blocking transactions; it’s about creating a frictionless, secure financial ecosystem where every American can feel confident in their digital financial interactions. And that’s what I plan to create.” Monisola believes her work upholds democratic values by prioritizing equal contribution in the digital economy, advocating for economic justice, and empowering individuals through widespread education. These patterns of vulnerability in elderly and other demographic groups need to be addressed and recognized, prioritizing leveling the playing field and preventing systematic targeting of these disadvantaged populations. Whether or not a person has technological expertise should be a non-starter; everyone deserves equal protection from fraud and a collective emphasis on digital literacy.
Ultimately, Monisola wants consumers to be made aware of the level of sophistication that fraud attacks through digital payments can meet. “Modern fraud isn’t just about stealing credit card numbers,” she says. “It’s a complex ecosystem of social engineering, sophisticated algorithmic attacks, and adaptive criminal strategies which expose millions of Americans to threats. This can only be addressed by developing comprehensive threat detection and preventive systems that analyze transactions through multiple lenses including behavioral patterns, network interactions, historical data, and real-time contextual information.” Her work involves getting machine learning to a point of recognizing familiar financial patterns to take protection to a whole new level of intuition. Because of how much fraud rates have climbed, and how quickly many Americans have lost trust in digital payment methods. However, trust is essential to the functioning of any financial system and Monisola is working to rebuild that trust through emerging fraud detection technologies and help businesses create powerful security frameworks.
Monisola Aina is thoroughly committed to ensuring that the businesses she works with emphasize transparency. She strives to implement in-the-moment threat analysis and predictive modeling so that risks can be identified and handling swiftly and ultimately confidence in digital transactions can be restored. Convenience, while important and highly prioritized in modern society, cannot supersede the significance of protection, so Monisola is working hard to keep both front and center.

Well done, Monisola! This is an insightful piece. Security framework of digital/online platforms cannot be overstated or overlooked. Therefore, it is commendable that we have someone working to bring transparency and security against fraudulent transactions and activities and the devastating impact on our society as a whole. Hopefully, we have more people geared towards the same goal.
Wow! This is really great work. To think I have experienced same and my partner as well, just this year even. Financial frauds are a menace that must be taken head on. Welldone monisola!
