As children we all learn the story of Androcles and the lion; how prey removed a thorn from the paw of predator. It’s meant to be a story of courage, nobility, and friendship built on trust.
Know what would be a better lesson? A lion removing a thorn from the foot of a man. It isn’t noble or courageous to be kind if you’re subject to the whims of a dominant culture; it’s survival.
Nobility and courage would be standing up for the rights of the oppressed, instead of, you know, eating them.
