There are now many different platforms on which you can enjoy games from different genres. While a gaming PC used to be the perfect solution for gaming, other platforms are also gaining ground. But which gaming platforms are actually the most popular? And for which target groups are they suitable in each case?
The Gaming PC
Even though the gaming PC is no longer the frontrunner, it is still used quite frequently. However, its popularity is declining because this platform is not exactly accessible to beginners. After all, you often have to shell out over 1,000 euros for a PC that can display the latest games smoothly and with appealing graphics. In addition, you have to regularly upgrade a gaming PC in order to continue playing current games.
Gaming consoles
Game consoles are still very popular. This is mainly because you don’t really have to worry about the technical requirements of a game. After all, the games are optimized for the corresponding console, so you can be sure that the performance is sufficient. Furthermore, game consoles convince with relatively moderate prices between 200 and 600 Euros. On top of that, all you need is a TV, which is probably already in most households anyway.
Furthermore, the current genres are supported for quite a long time, so you don’t have to upgrade that quickly. The possibility to play locally with several players is also convincing.
The smartphone
It might be a bit surprising at first: The smartphone is in first place when it comes to gaming platforms. However, this is quite logical when you think about the various advantages of the device – no matter whether you want to play smaller games like Freecell, for example, to bridge waiting times, or prefer to focus on technically demanding titles: The smartphone makes it possible. The biggest advantage is probably that almost everyone owns a smartphone and can therefore play games everywhere. There are also portable consoles, but you have to buy them as well.
In addition, you can download many different games from the app stores for free and thus have a lot of fun. If a particularly elaborate game costs something, you will not pay more than 10 Euros for it in most cases. In comparison: If you want to buy a current game for the console shortly after its release, you will easily have to pay 60 Euros or even more. In addition, some games that were initially developed for the PC and consoles are also released on smartphone due to the ever-evolving technology.
Is the smartphone even viable as a gaming platform?
It is extremely unlikely that gaming on smartphones will not be as attractive in the future. After all, technical progress ensures that more and more possibilities for mobile games can be developed. In the meantime, it is even possible to play graphically demanding shooters or role-playing games on mobile devices. In many cases, you don’t have to do without the comfort of a console: In some cases, you can even connect a controller to the smartphone to optimize the control.
Furthermore, mobile games are interesting for almost every target group, which can be said less about the gaming PC, for example. The simple entry and the variety of free games will certainly secure the smartphone’s first place among gaming platforms for a long time.
