SAN DIEGO, Calif. — If you think going to the dentist is boring or something to dread, you’ve probably never stepped inside one of The Super Dentists’ offices. Patients are not greeted by a sterile chair and fluorescent lighting. Instead, they enter an alternate universe filled with superheroes, storytelling and scientific innovation.
This is where cavities meet capes and orthodontics gets a magical twist. The Super Dentists have reimagined what it means to provide dental care. With a wildly imaginative world of heroes and villains, they’ve built more than a practice. They’ve built an experience.
“The doctors and the tooth-loving crew are so caring, especially Dr. Javdan and Abby,” one recent patient shared. “We definitely recommend going to The Super Dentists.”
A mother named Janelle added, “We’ve been here multiple times. Every experience has been great with no complaints. My children love it here. There’s entertainment to keep them busy while waiting to be called.”
Back-To-School, Back To Smiles
As California children return to school, there’s one state requirement that often slips through the cracks: a mandatory dental assessment. According to state law, every child entering kindergarten or transitional kindergarten must have an oral health evaluation completed and submitted to their school. The goal is to catch dental issues early, before they interfere with a child’s ability to learn.
“We’ve worked with countless families who were surprised to learn that oral health can affect everything from a child’s concentration to their ability to eat and sleep comfortably,” said Dr. Nazli Keri, co-founder and pediatric dentist. “School readiness includes health readiness. That’s why this mandate is more than just a checkbox. It’s a doorway into a healthier future.”
The Super Dentists are strategically located throughout Southern California with offices in Carmel Valley, Chula Vista, Eastlake, Escondido, Kearny Mesa, Oceanside and their newest location in Moreno Valley.
Each site is intentionally designed to be accessible and fun, providing high-quality dental services with a healthy dose of imagination.
Enter The Super Verse
Step into any Super Dentists location and the line between reality and fantasy begins to blur. Colorful murals sweep across the walls, heroic mascots roam the halls and theme-park-style lounges pulse with energy. Characters like The Tooth Keri and Dr. HaveOneSuperSmile battle villains like Cavitar and Molar in an original, ever-evolving story universe that children follow over multiple visits.
“Our goal was to create something extraordinary,” said Dr. Kami Hoss, orthodontist and co-founder. “We wanted kids to look forward to going to the dentist. We asked ourselves, what if dental appointments felt like comic books coming to life?”
Dr. Keri, known to patients as The Tooth Keri, brings both clinical expertise and a warm presence. A graduate of USC’s dental school with a specialty in pediatric dentistry, she also teaches at Howard Healthcare Academy and is a longtime member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
“I use positive, pleasant messages for children so their experience at the dentist is fun and memorable,” Dr. Keri said. “There’s nothing better than hearing a child say, ‘We love you, Tooth Keri.’”
Dr. Hoss, also known as Dr. HaveOneSuperSmile, holds dual degrees from UCLA and USC and earned a post-doctoral in orthodontics, and a master’s in craniofacial biology. He serves on the Board of Counselors at UCLA’s School of Dentistry and is a regular contributor to Newsweek and Forbes. His bestselling book, If Your Mouth Could Talk, explores the connection between oral health and whole-body wellness.
“I love creating something beautiful that lasts forever,” Dr. Hoss said. “As much as I think of myself as a scientist, I embrace the art of orthodontics. That’s where the magic happens.”
Good Vs. Gingivitis
The world of The Super Dentists isn’t just cute. It’s tactical. By introducing characters like Melo-D, Flossosaurus and Denion “Super Assistant,” the team embeds educational messaging into a fantastical framework. Even the villains serve a purpose.
“Cavitar flunked out of dental school and wants sugar to rule the universe,” Dr. Keri explained. “Kids laugh, but they remember why sugar is a problem. And Molar, his sidekick, is kind of unsure if he even agrees with Cavitar. So it opens up a lot of fun dialogue.”
During appointments, children can wear VR headsets, watch superhero episodes created in-house or interact with gamified tools that encourage healthy habits. The practice also launched the Grin Land Experience, a virtual dental world that engages kids through immersive play.
“This is about fighting fear with fun,” said Dr. Hoss. “Anxiety disappears when kids feel in control, when they feel like the heroes of their story.”
Powered By Science
Behind the fun is a serious commitment to advanced care. The Super Dentists offer state-of-the-art treatments that include digital oral scanners, low-radiation X-rays, computer-assisted anesthesia and accelerated orthodontics like Acceledontics and AADvance Braces. Some treatments cut typical timelines in half.
They also provide Invisalign, Incognito and whitening systems tailored for teens and adults. With a full roster of pediatric, orthodontic and adult general dentists on staff, the offices are equipped to serve multi-generational families in a single visit.
“We built this for the whole family,” Dr. Keri said. “It’s not just about the child’s smile anymore. Parents deserve a fun, safe, convenient dental home too.”
Their flexible scheduling includes early morning, evening and Saturday appointments. On-site labs and digital modeling allow faster turnaround on retainers and dental appliances, keeping families moving without long delays.
Beyond The Chair
The Super Dentists’ influence goes beyond the walls of their offices. Each year, they host community events like the Super Smile Halloween Party, back-to-school health fairs and oral health education tours across local schools. They also provide free services to underserved children and run outreach campaigns tied to national health initiatives.
“We want to be seen as trusted partners in raising healthy kids,” Dr. Hoss said. “That means showing up, teaching, giving back and building trust where it matters most.”
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the team quickly pivoted to virtual consults and upgraded safety protocols while maintaining their sense of joy. Families appreciated the calm, imaginative energy amid uncertainty.
“Our team stayed strong through it all,” said Dr. Keri. “It showed us that this is more than a business. It’s a mission.”
Their efforts have been recognized through dozens of regional awards, including Best Pediatric Dentist, Top Health Professional and multiple readers’ choice accolades. For nearly 30 years, they’ve helped redefine the dental visit from dreaded to anticipated.
Smiles That Last Generations
Many of the children who first visited The Super Dentists two decades ago are now bringing in their own kids. That legacy speaks louder than any review.
“We hear it all the time,” said Dr. Hoss. “‘I came here as a child and now my daughter is the one excited to meet the Flossosaurus.’ That’s how we know we’re doing something right.”
As for what’s next, the company is investing in artificial intelligence, real-time data tracking and additional locations to serve even more families across California. The storytelling universe continues to expand too, with new characters, episodes and interactive adventures in the works.
“Our greatest accomplishment is changing the way people feel about dental care,” said Dr. Keri. “When you transform fear into joy, you build more than smiles. You build confidence, trust and a lifelong relationship with health.”
In a world where fear of the dentist still lingers for many, The Super Dentists are flipping the script – one heroic smile at a time.
