Welcome to Portraits of Fatherhood: We’re telling the story of today’s dads.
__
There is no better place to witness the changing roles of men and women in the larger culture than through the lens of parenthood. But rather than speculate on what and how contemporary fathers do what they do, we’d like to bring you portraits of the dads themselves. In their own words. Would you like to be interviewed for this feature? See the end of the post for details.

HOW DO YOU COMBINE WORK AND FAMILY? How have you arranged your life/schedule to provide the daily care for your kid(s)?
I’m self-employed so my schedule is pretty flexible and I’m involved in every aspect of their lives.
HOW HAS PARENTING CHANGED YOU AS AN INDIVIDUAL?
I have had to learn to put my childrens’ needs before my own. Selfish people don’t make good parents.
WHAT ARE YOUR STRENGTHS AS A PARENT AND WHAT ARE YOUR WEAKNESSES?
I am very protective of my kids, I show them unconditional love and I teach them to be strong spiritually, mentally and physically. Weaknesses: I have yet to learn how to style my youngest daughter’s hair, it’s hard for me to tell my kids NO and I can’t get them to pick up after themselves to save my life.
WHO ELSE PROVIDES CHILDCARE FOR YOUR CHILDREN?
My son is seventeen, so he helps take care of his sisters when I need him to.
WHAT IS YOUR WORST PARENTING MOMENT?
When my oldest daughter started her first monthly cycle.
WHAT IS YOUR BEST PARENTING MOMENT?
When my teenage son was being interviewed on a live television talk show and said I was his best friend.
We’re looking for a few good dads.
