The day I became your Father was a day like no other,
I laughed, cried, prayed, and just held on to your mother.
The moment I saw your tiny little body I knew I was blessed,
Overcome with emotions that would soon put me to the test.
You see society’s interpretation of a man I knew, I was not,
Because when it came to weaknesses, I knew I had a lot.
Worrying in my life hit a new plateau on that January day,
How to protect you, be enough for you? are questions that didn’t go away.
As a child, I experienced some of the horrible things that go on in this world,
And now as an overprotective man, I have to protect a little girl.
An attempted abduction and sexual violence are some things I went through,
I would live it all again if I could get a guarantee it wouldn’t happen to you.
I may be overprotective but I won’t always be there for your protection,
So I will arm you with knowledge and teach you many lessons.
My constant prayer for you is that you get your Mother’s traits and not mine,
She’s a strong willed woman, and with her skill set you’ll be just fine.
I will always challenge your weaknesses and appreciate your strengths,
To show you all my love I will be sure to go to all lengths.
Your Daddy has made mistakes but its about where your Daddy stands,
Your Daddy will be there no matter what to take you by the hand.
Since the first time I got to kiss you on that first day I was a Father,
I’ve been driven to become a better person because of you my sweet little Daughter.
