100 Words, by Aaron Philip Clark
–
When the bullet sliced the air—it whistled. I took that bullet. I took it when you told me of the past—the heartbreak, the wrong men. I took that bullet when you were afraid to face it down—listening as you poured out with sorrow and doubt. I took that bullet when you said you loved me. I took that bullet when you pretended to be happy and it nearly killed me—bits and pieces gone at exit. I took that bullet and the cavity it left will haunt us both forever.
