Coronavirus has reset and revolutionized the whole world. The constant hustle and bustle of modern life have been brought to a slow lull. From being a full-time employee, one is now a fulltime employee cum stay-at-home /work-from-home parent cum nanny cum cook cum housekeeper cum entertainer as well as an entertainment junkie.
As your roles and responsibilities have multiplied manifold, you long to take a short break, put your feet up, and find refuge in an imaginary world. That might work out for some and for some time.
Here are three reasons for you to explore becoming a content creator during such uncertain and difficult times:
1. You can take your mind off the constant negativity and create sources of passive income.
A sense of uncertainty hovers everywhere you turn. Many businesses are shutting down, employees are being laid off, salaries are being cut, furloughs are in place, disposable income is going down.
Writing and publishing a book or creating a video or a social media post or a musical piece or song will help take your mind off these constant negative thoughts and give you ways to earn passive income. You may not become a millionaire, but sticking at it enough and learning what the consumer (of content) wants will help you tailor it to their needs and get better and better at it and help you set up means for earning on the side doing something that you enjoy.
You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them. – Maya Angelou
2. There is only so much content available.
Tuning in to the news and current affairs dips the mood, so you turn to binge-watching movies and serials; reading book after book; listening to song after song. You exhaust every piece of content that speaks to your heart and provides you an escape from the world’s happenings. You start consuming just for the sake of it.
Now is a good time to create your own content as you and many others have exhausted the recommendations and are now only watching/reading sub-standard stuff to while away time. Most of these make you passive, and they slowly but steadily drain the thinking and creative bandwidth out of you, and you get and remain sucked in their world.
If you don’t see the book you want on the shelves, write it.―Beverly Cleary
3. You can create new worlds.
During these dark and uncertain times, more and more people fall prey to depression, suicide, violence, and abuse. The new normal is frightening to some, and most want to break free from within the walls caging them.
Creating your own content is a way for you to re-imagine the world and how it could be. You can make the world brighter and better for those who would consume/read/watch your content. It might be your light at the end of the tunnel that helps them pull through and get out of the dark pit. You can be their knight in shining armor and take them on your shiny white novel/self-help book/video to a better place.
Creativity involves breakingout of expected patterns in order to look at things in adifferent way.–Edward de Bono
Have you become a content creator during the pandemic? What have you been creating to keep the blues at bay?
Looking forward to seeing your content spread through this globally interconnected world and touch your tribe’s lives, eagerly awaiting your message.
