- they talk without needing to be right or wrong
- they make love (you know, when they can)
- they laugh
- they care (especially with the little wins)
- they try
- they go on dates
- they want the best for each other
- they are the best of teammates
- they break bread together
- they listen
- they say, “tell me more…”
- they listen again
- they do their own thing
- they communicate their needs
- they love unconditionally despite how much is in their cup
- they don’t shame, stonewall, defend, or use rage to get what they want
- they turn towards, not away
- they say, “I love you”
- they hug
- they kiss
- they touch
- they affirm
- they give without expecting
- they clean
- they make beds for each other
- they do dishes and clean floors and play gin rummy
- they go on walks
- they work out
- they watch “their” show
- they party hard once a month
- they dance while they cook
- they get coke zero at the grocery store
- they smile for no reason
- they laugh for no reason
- they enjoy spaces of silence
- they try not to judge how they were judged
- they try to get triggered by what used to trigger them
- they continue learning each other
- they buy cool gifts that the other person would love
- they do art night
- they sit together
- they talk together
- they play together
- they laugh again, and again, and again
This is love for me now. This is what being a happy couple entails at the moment. And I’m grateful for all of it.
