Most people think confidence is something you either have or don’t.
But that’s not true.
Confidence isn’t built in big moments.
It’s shaped in small, repeated behaviors.
And sometimes…
You’re not lacking confidence.
You’re unknowingly destroying it.
Here’s how.
1. You break promises to yourself
You say:
- “I’ll start tomorrow.”
- “I’ll wake up early.”
- “I’ll finish this today.”
And then you don’t.
It seems small.
But every time you don’t follow through…
You send yourself a message:
“My words don’t matter.”
And slowly, you stop trusting yourself.
2. You constantly compare yourself to others
You scroll.
You see:
- Someone doing better
- Someone achieving more
- Someone living differently
And instead of feeling inspired…
You feel behind.
But you’re comparing:
Your real life is someone else’s highlight reel.
And that comparison will always make you feel smaller.
3. You overthink everything
Every decision becomes heavy.
- What to say
- What to post
- What people will think
You analyse so much…
That you stop acting.
And confidence doesn’t grow in thinking.
It grows in doing.
4. You seek validation before taking action
You want:
- Approval
- Reassurance
- Confirmation
Before you move forward.
But confidence doesn’t come from others telling you you’re right.
It comes from:
Trusting yourself even when you’re unsure.
5. You avoid discomfort
You stay in:
- Safe choices
- Familiar routines
- Predictable situations
Because it feels comfortable.
But confidence is built when you:
- Try
- Fail
- Learn
- Try again
Avoiding discomfort = avoiding growth.
6. You talk to yourself negatively
Your inner voice says things like:
- “I’m not good enough.”
- “I always mess up.”
- “I can’t do this.”
And the worst part?
You believe it.
Because you hear it every day.
Confidence isn’t just external.
It’s deeply tied to how you speak to yourself.
7. You wait until you feel “ready.”
You think:
- “I’ll start when I’m confident.”
- “I’ll try when I feel prepared.”
But confidence doesn’t come first.
Action does.
You don’t feel ready and then act.
You act… and then you become ready.
So how do you rebuild confidence?
Not with motivation.
Not with affirmations alone.
But with evidence.
- Keep small promises
- Take small actions
- Face small discomforts
Because every small win tells your brain:
“I can trust myself.”
Final thought
Confidence isn’t something you find.
It’s something you build.
Or something you slowly lose.
So if you’ve been feeling low lately…
Don’t just ask:
“How do I become more confident?”
Ask:
“What am I doing every day that’s breaking it?”
Fix that…
And confidence starts returning on its own.
