I’m a mom of three children; Yasmeen 19, Noora 15, and the youngest, Mariam 9 and wife of 21 years to Mohamed, a Risk Management Strategist. I was born in Egypt and raised in America. I have a passion for and have worked in special education for the past twelve years; currently, I am an Educational Diagnostician. My job allows me the opportunity to help facilitate between families and schools the best programming for children with special needs. I am the first to graduate from college in my family. My hobbies and interests include creating crafts, horseback riding, being outdoors, and anything that reminds me of the beach. Growing up in California, I consider myself a classic beach bum; if I could, I’d spend all my days soaking up as much sun as possible.
Quote.
One hundred years from now, it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove, but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child. – Forest E. Witcraft
What I do well as a mom.
I empathize and relate well to my children. I also do a good job of reading books to improve my parenting skills and I teach my kids how to be and stand proud of their nationality and the importance of higher education.
Lesson learned from another mom.
To relax and not stress over everything, ignore the little things and focus on what really matters. This has saved me so much heartache and saved my children many lectures that I’m sure they didn’t want to hear.
What I learned from my child.
To wake up each morning refreshed and ready to begin a new day. To move forward and not let the past define who I am and learn the art of forgiveness.
Successful motherhood moment.
After my then nine-year-old daughter heard the news about teacher layoffs and cutbacks in education funding, she opened up a lemonade and cookie stand to raise funds for the education foundation of her local school district.
Mom I admire.
My mother and my mother-in-law. Both these women left Egypt when they were in their early twenties, leaving behind all they knew and their entire families for the sake of a better life and education for their children. They’ve worked tirelessly to ensure their children had every opportunity afforded to them in America, and that is not something I would ever that for granted. Showing my own children the value of education, security, and family is something I take very seriously. I honor these two women for showing me that family and my own children is life’s greatest gift.
