A Love Letter
Dear 2023,
Today, I reflected on this year and, you rocked my world in all places. There were heartaches, uncertainties, and pain, but there was also joy, laughter, and relief. I couldn’t be more proud of you for bringing all these to my life. They made me stronger and better.
I started with the uncertainty of being unemployed. It was the worst feeling. My mind was overwhelmed with the fact that I couldn’t take care of my special needs son and pay my bills. Yet, I didn’t falter. I took on a gig as a food delivery driver, which helped tremendously. Not only did I get back on track financially, but I enjoyed the quiet moments of driving to places and tasting some really good food (I always have my wallet handy in case I see something I want to try).
Then my birthday month came. I got a phone call from a recruiter about a job. I got in. Fast forward to today. Not only am I now a permanent employee but I landed a mission role this month for our new products team. I started the year jobless, and I am ending the year with a dream job with the perfect work-life balance for a single mom like me.
Other craziness happened this year, but you know what they are.
Thank you for the lessons you gave me. I learned to move forward despite life’s uncertainties. I learned to push through the boundaries and see myself in a different light. I learned to see the important things in the moment, to let go of the past, and not worry too much about the future.
Lastly, I learned to let go and let God. I have always wanted to be in control of everything, even when it is hard to grasp. I had to reach a breaking point to realize that I am human. I let go, prayed, and left everything in God’s hands. Since then, I can breathe freely.
I will cherish all these as I start another year. I will never forget you as you paved a better way for me. I am excited for the new year ahead. You have shown me the most important things in life, and I cherish them all. I will never live in mediocrity again. You have challenged me to go deep yet not drown. You taught me how to swim.
Thank you for showing me what I am capable of. Thank you for showing me the right way.
Yours truly,
A friend who will always remember
