- See no evil
- Speak no evil
- Hear no evil
Republican politicians seem to embrace #’s 1 & 3 while choosing to ignore #2. They do this all at great risk to our democracy and the harmony, mental health and well-being of the citizenry. More on this in a moment…
Wednesday, October 24, 2018, saw an explosion of potentially murderous threats to hundreds of people. The direct recipients we know by name.
- Packages identified as of Wednesday were addressed to former President Obama, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former CIA Director John Brennan, former Attorney General Eric Holder, and liberal philanthropist George Soros.
- All packages had a return address of “Debbie Wasserman Shultz,” the FBI said.
- The package addressed to Brennan was sent to CNN’s offices in New York City. It contained what appeared to be a live explosive device, and an envelope containing white powder.
- A suspicious package addressed to Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters was intercepted at a House mail facility, two sources told CBS News.”
Although only a handful of threats were delivered to individuals most all the explosive packages were sent through the mail, exposing countless postal employees to danger with one package ending up at CNN causing newsroom evacuation. It’s believed there may be other pipe bomb packages en route.
Lock her up. Lock her up. The Democrats are a mob. They want open borders and to let criminals in. Democrats create mobs, Republicans create jobs.
Senator Diane Feinstein held onto a letter from Dr. Christine Blasey Ford for a month. Lock her up, lock her up. Just some of the incendiary words uttered by Trump and his followers at rallies around the nation. Lies and calls to hostile aggressive action are devastating to the nation.
In Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on the day of the Iowa caucuses, for instance, he {Trump} told audience members he would pay their legal fees if they engaged in violence against protesters…. “If you see somebody getting ready to throw a tomato, knock the crap out of them, would you? Seriously, OK? Just knock the hell … I promise you I will pay for the legal fees. I promise, I promise,” he said on Feb. 1, 2016…
At a Las Vegas rally later that month, he said security guards were too gentle with a protester. “He’s walking out with big high-fives, smiling, laughing,” Trump said. “I’d like to punch him in the face, I’ll tell you… “A similar situation unfolded at a rally that month in Warren, Michigan.’ “Get him out,” he said of a protester. “Try not to hurt him. If you do, I’ll defend you in court. Don’t worry about it.
Trump has claimed that Democrats have “openly invited” illegal immigrants to the border, that they want “open borders” and “want caravans, they like the caravans”.
He is stoking fear in the hearts of his stalwart followers. He tells untruths as easily as water flows over Niagara Falls.
The danger to the people of our great country is not only the lies, but the fomenting of deep hatred against fellow citizens based solely on differing political opinions.
There have always been extremists. Now, however, we have a President who appears to be intentionally riling up his constituency through the use of GASLIGHTING.
His followers (many of whom only get their “news” on Fox) believe everything POTUS says.
Alarmingly, it seems that Donald Trump gets much of his information from Fox News. It’s a vicious cycle.
Examining it in greater depth, the danger is at least two-fold.
First, the incitement to riot and the entitlement to violence Trump followers feel based upon his words.
On the other side of the spectrum are those who are anxious, distressed, depressed and demoralized with what is happening in our nation. Many are scared. Lots are tuning out the news.
Now back to the three monkey’s analogy. Republican leaders lost their moral center as soon as they began to routinely accept Donald Trumps paranoid, narcissistic fear mongering. Instead of calling him out on it they saw no evil and heard no evil.
Certainly, these politicians spoke and continue to speak evil either by words or standing mutely next to Trump as he utters his contentious invectives.
We don’t yet know who is responsible for the attempted attacks. It might be someone or group on either side of the political spectrum with an agenda, simply a disturbed or distressed individual or even foreign actors!
The bottom line is that Donald Trump has created a volatile atmosphere that like a bacteria infested “swamp” breeds this type of sub-human, aggressive anti-social behavior.
The time has come for politicians on both sides of the aisle to speak as one, rejecting Donald Trump’s divisiveness which is turning friends and family members against one another.
President Trump has galvanized an army of blind followers who may ultimately with his help lead us into a civil war.
Let’s all demand a bipartisan political committee of both houses of Congress joined by an armada of citizen representatives to reign in Donald Trump’s self and nation destructive actions.
Then together move forward as a functioning democracy to the next level of political action needed to protect our nation’s integrity as we prepare for the upcoming Presidential referendum barely two years away.
If we can accomplish this, then in 2020 we can hold elections in a measured way to determine the direction in which we wish America to head.
A final note: As Trump condemned the terrorist violence he made a point not to mention CNN by name. The credible mainstream and alternative press help keep America an informed and free democracy. His continual reference to fake news is gaslighting followers and poses a most serious threat to our faith in the fourth estate which is a vital cornerstone of a functioning democracy.
Below is a clip from the movie Gaslight.
