A haunting poem by Alexander Humphries.
—
Bitter art and beauty —
I can feel this
with a biting heart that soothes me,
splinters thought,
screams right through,
like the furious calm that accompanies dying.
Loses me
loose around a noose
of fear and autonomy,
my blood sworn anatomy;
it’s the way I move,
way I feel,
the way I see her swaying on the hill,
atrophied into gentle ruin
among gossamer fog and warm spring rain —
standing tall like proud wreckage
and dreaming narcotic ~
