Welcome to racism in the USA. Don’t let the relatively infrequent “loud” examples like the one above trick you into believing racism is a thing of the past.

For each recorded moment like this, there are thousands of more “subtle” but unrecorded forms of racism in the United States. These forms are far more pervasive and often far more damaging than loud displays like this. While videos like the one above can start conversations about race and racism, let’s not forget the racism that runs rampant in both the US criminal justice and education systems. Those types are far more destructive than what this idiot on a bus could ever do.

UPDATE: Some reports have claimed this event was staged. Regardless, this has started an extremely important conversation. Racism is real. It is alive and well in both the US and abroad. Check out some of the Facebook comments below:
This was not a prank. It was filmed by someone who is an actor, but this is a real incident. DO you really believe that the New York Transportation center was apart of such foolishness and an entire bus of 40 people were the cast. Get real. This is poor journalism. Here is the original video: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=766529320045926&set=vb.100000665952933&type=2&theater
I’m disturbed by the notion that this was revealed to be a fake (see “Update”) and yet GMP is still presenting it as real…
About 30 years ago, Brother (religious title) Frank told us a story of when he went to the southern portion of the U.S. He was approaching an intersection and an older black woman was approaching the intersection perpendicular to him. There was no traffic light so he stopped and so did she. He mentioned for her to go and she shook her head no. He motioned again and she shook her head no. He got out of the car and walked over to ask her why she didn’t want to go. She told him no, you’re white. That was the… Read more »
It seems almost on purpose – like he was trying to start something. Idiot.
This video doesn’t make any logical sense. I’m a bit suspicious. I do believe that racism exists, but there are a lot of things about this particular scenario that don’t sit well.
At any rate, america can take heart – our direction as a country can be better measured by our youth than by our over sixty mentally ill. Assuming this video is not staged.
You think things are looking quite alright if you see a man say this stuff and get verbally attacked by half the bus. Until you notice 3 things:
A: All the people that protest are black
B: The bus driver does not get involved
C: All the comments in the youtube comment section.
And now I am very, very sad.
As I said when we discussed the article. Notice how as soon as one was starting to loose their patience with the man, the others would serve as crowd control. They knew that this, like so many others, is a no win situation for them. Yet, they never gave into the “stereotype”. They acted with a lot more composure and control. I am not sure if I could have handled it.
Yet, if they would have stepped up to his attack, he would have had a chance to “Stand His Ground”. Funny how that law works.
I don’t see any other white people on the bus, nor do I see a bus driver. There’s a lot of context missing from this video, and it’s easy to presume it’s some sort of set-up or gag. If it’s not, there’s something wrong with this guy.
Off to YouTube to read those comments…
Hmm…. The poster’s name is MsmuffinPranks, and it’s the “Pranks” that gets me.
That doesn’t mean this is fake, but it makes it more suspicious.
I just looked it up, her videos are “pranks” and we fell for it hook line and sinker. It appears that this video is a prank. According to what I read about her, she does this quite a bit. When I watched the video, there was something about this guy that wasn’t quite right. He was one of two thing. Actor and not a good one, or a nut case that’s not on his meds. This was also a video that was done by another passenger and not the bus video. So, given that this is more then likely bogus… Read more »
