Keep in mind that this is just a quick overview — head to the recipe card for detailed instructions and exact measurements!
Extra-Firm Tofu: The main ingredient in this dish, it provides the texture and structure that soak up the seasoning’s flavors. The more your drain and dry your tofu prior to cooking, the crispier it will be.
Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Helps give the tofu a golden, crunchy exterior. You can also use avocado or grape seed oil, or even melted butter if you’re not vegan.
Coconut Aminos or Soy Sauce: Provides saltiness and umami-rich flavor. Use gluten-free soy sauce if necessary.
Apple Cider Vinegar: Adds a tangy acidity that balances the flavors of the Cajun tofu. If you do not have ACV regular white vinegar, red wine vinegar or even lemon juice will do the trick!
Cajun Seasoning: Gives the tofu bites a spicy, smoky flavor.
Smoked Paprika: Gives color to the tofu chunks while enhancing their Cajun-inspired flavors.
Garlic Powder: Enhances the umami flavors.
Ground Black Pepper: Adds a sharp, yet subtle heat.
Maple Syrup: Gives a touch of sweetness to balance the taste of the dish. You can use honey if you’re not vegan.

- Press the tofu for at least 10 minutes to remove excess moisture. If you don’t have a tofu press, wrap it in a clean dish towel, place it on a cutting board, and weigh it down with a heavy object.
- Tear the tofu into irregular chunks with your hands—this helps create more crispy edges.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the oil, coconut aminos, vinegar, Cajun seasoning, paprika, garlic powder, pepper, and maple syrup until well combined.
- Add the torn tofu to the marinade, tossing to coat evenly.
- Let it sit for 10-15 minutes (or longer for a more intense flavor).
- Then, follow one of the three cooking methods listed in the recipe card.

Serving Crispy Tofu Bites
- Served alongside creamy cajun coleslaw.
- Served with beans and rice.
- To top off pasta, salad, or curries.
- Topped with green onions, toasted sesame seeds, or chopped cilantro.
- Dipped into a cooling dip like vegan ranch or a yogurt-based sauce like tzatziki.
- Drizzled with a squeeze of lime juice or hot sauce.

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They’ll be good for up to 5 days.
You can reheat the tofu bites in the oven, stove, or air fryer until they’ve regained their crispiness.

- The more you press or dry the tofu, the crispier the results. If you’re short on time, consider using pre-pressed extra-firm tofu if available.
- To give them an extra crunch, you can lightly dust the tofu with cornstarch or tapioca starch before cooking.
- If you don’t like tearing tofu, you can slice it into tofu cubes instead.
- Don’t overcrowd the tofu as it cooks so it crisps up evenly.
- Keep in mind that the tofu continues to crisp up as it cools. For the best texture, let it rest for a few minutes before serving.

-
In a large bowl, combine the oil, coconut aminos, vinegar, cajun seasoning, paprika, garlic powder, pepper and maple syrup. Mix well.
-
Toss the torn tofu pieces in the marinade, ensuring they’re well-coated.

Preheat the oven to 400℉.

Spread the tofu in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
-
Air fry at 375℉ for 15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through cooking.
Pan-Fry Method
-
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat with 1-2 tablespoons of oil (I like to use avocado oil).
