Dear Trump and MAGA: We Don’t Want What You’re Selling

Dear Mr. Trump and MAGA,

We are fed up, tuckered out, and royally pissed off at all your ‘patriotic,’ racist, and hateful BS. We’re tired of non-stop lies, Gestapo tactics, voter suppression, and overt oppression of vulnerable groups like transgender kids and other LGBTQ+ folks.

We’re fed up with all the other-blaming and open hatred. We’ve had it with angry White folks ranting on and on about their fantasized ‘victimhood.’ We’re sick of decades of far-right-incited paranoia and persecution, masquerading as ‘patriotism’ and national pride.

Who’s this ‘we’ I’m referring to? We are the clear (and increasing) majority of Americans, and we are sick and tired of being ignored, lied to, ripped off, and manipulated by egomaniacs and devious demagogues. We are furious over what has become of our struggling democracy — over what you have deliberately done to our semi-democracy.

We’ve been watching, and we’re seeing you clamp down hard on freedom of speech, the press, and broadcasting — all in the name of ‘free speech,’ somehow, in a total Orwellian mind-fuck. We’ve seen you dismantling our federal government, its agencies, and all meaningful oversight, bit by bit — until almost nothing good or functional is left.

But that was the exact plan, wasn’t it? Rip it all down, tear our existing society apart, reduce it to rubble… and then swoop in to ‘save the day’ and remake the US in your own twisted, hateful ‘Christian’ image.

But we’ve seen what you offer — and it both repels and frightens us. We’ve seen the horror show you’re selling… and we don’t want it. We don’t want it. Nor do we accept it.

With liberty and justice for… some?

I want to remind Mr. Trump and MAGA about a little phrase that illuminates America’s true mission and goal: “with liberty and justice for all.” All. As in: everyone. That phrase sorta boils our Constitution and all its amendments down to their essence. And sure, we know that the US has been damn slow to fulfill that promise — but we also know that, for a while, in the 60s, 70s, and early 80s, the US was at least trying to live up to that promise.

But since the time of Reagan — that is, for over 40 years now — the GOP has been pushing to turn back the clock and re-invigorate racism and White supremacy. It’s been a purposeful, devious, multi-decade effort, and sadly, it worked. Over the past 40+ years, the US has increasingly been reverting to its ‘glorious’ past, when White men ruled and minorities and women… didn’t and couldn’t. Not only didn’t they ‘rule,’ they were barely allowed to participate in our society.

But it appears that YOU, Trump and MAGA, deeply prefer that state of affairs. You like to oppress and persecute Blacks, Hispanics, LGBTQ+ folks, and even women in general. Don’t you dare tell us, in feigned shock and horror, that this statement is ‘unfair’ and ‘just not the case.’ It IS the case. We’ve seen what you like and approve of, we’ve watched as you’ve enacted oppressive laws, and we can see the kind of society you envision and are rushing to re-create.

It’s crystal clear now: under your influence, Trump and MAGA, the US has reneged on the ‘for all’ part of our American promise. We’re reverting to a ‘Whites only’ version, where it (again) is limited to ‘freedom and justice for… White Christian Americans only.’

And now, we’re here to tell you: we don’t like what we see. We do not condone or approve of your anti-American beliefs and actions.

There, I said it out loud. After nine excruciating years, we know for sure: you and your ilk are not ‘patriots,’ and in fact are anti-American in many crucial respects.

We… don’t… want… what you’re selling.

What DO we want and like, then? We like diversity. We value cooperation and sharing. We want equity and fairness. We enjoy, and seek to expand, inclusion. Thus, we fully support that dreaded right-wing bugaboo, ‘DEI’. We promote acceptance and widening tolerance. We choose to practice interactive love and compassion in all their varied forms.

Our nation IS being stolen. It’s time to reclaim it.

As noted, we’ve been watching all your intentional ‘social sabotage’ unfolding and intensifying, especially over the past decade — concurrent with the rise and ‘triumph’ of Donald Trump and MAGA.

We’ve watched all the lies and ongoing fraud about America’s ‘stolen elections’; we’ve seen endless, successful attempts to undermine the power of the free press, the media, the law, and the judiciary — the last bulwarks of democracy. We’ve seen the militarization of many ‘blue’ cities and the abuse of our military, illegally turning it against American cities and citizens. We’ve seen illegal (and even legal) immigrants rounded up like stray animals, impounded, separated from their children, and sometimes shipped to notorious prison camps abroad — with NO due process.

All of these ongoing US actions and priorities are utterly un-American — and cannot be allowed to stand. Hopefully, the tide is starting to turn now, and many more Americans are waking up and realizing — finally — that our country is disappearing; it is being stolen from us. Yes, it is being stolen right under our noses. We are having the proverbial rug yanked out from under us.

This is the real, nauseating truth: our nation IS being dismantled and stolen. The far right keeps screaming about ‘their’ (White) nation being ‘stolen’ from them, but, in reality, they are the ones shitting on America’s purpose, overturning its stated goals, and reverting to rageful, racist White ‘Christian’ supremacy. We’ve seen the horrid, hateful goods you’re selling, and we don’t want them.

We’re not going to passively endure the wool being pulled over our eyes, again and again. We simply can’t allow this ugly, anti-American farce to continue dominating our society. Yesterday’s (Nov. 4) elections, in which the Democrats prevailed totally, are just the warmup. Next year, the crucial 2026 elections will show the world that most Americans are not ‘on board’ with all the racist, misogynistic, tyrannical Trumpian horrors that have been unleashed on our nation since Trump 2.0 leapt into action.

Dear Trump and MAGA, please realize: you’ve overstepped badly, and you’ve woken the sleeping giant. Soon, it’s going to be totally undeniable and in your faces: we don’t want what you’re selling. And, to paraphrase the iconic line from the film ‘Network’ —

“We’re mad as hell, and we’re not going to take it anymore!”
