I have a real resistance to writing this piece. I really don’t wanna. I mean I really don’t wanna.
But I gotta. I gotta do it.
When we take responsibility for our truth, own who we’re being, and get real with one another, that’s the only way the world can start working again.
This isn’t an article about politics. It’s an article about how to act like an adult.

My Kings, it’s time to expose another peasant. He’s in the news all the time. And knowing me, he’ll probably read this and tweet some kind of pettiness about it.
God, I hope! It’ll be the biggest thing to ever happen to Royal Hearts Coaching.
I hope President Trump calls me fake news.
Let’s spin the wheel of peasants…Donald Trump, come on down!
First of all, let me explain a few things. This is my opinion, but I believe most of us can be categorized one of four ways. This list is fluid, by the way.
Kings
- We’re the agents of change and transformation in the world. Kings partner with other people. Kings are respected and revered for who we’re being. Kings get stuff done.
Prince
- This is the guy who is right there. He’s close. He knows what he wants, but he may not know how to get there. He just needs to get fitted for his crown.
Tyrant
- He thinks he’s a king, but in reality, he’s an egotistical example of a… peasant
Peasant
- I mean, this really should go without saying. A peasant is miserable, and loves making everybody else miserable. While his ego may not be quite as noticeable as the tyrant, they’re cut from the same commoner cloth.
As I stated in my piece about Roy Moore, I will try my best not to let my disdain for Donald Trump the politician taint this article. I’m pointing to Donald Trump the man.
This isn’t an article about politics. It’s an article about how to act like an adult.
Of all the peasant-like things President Trump has said, this may not be the most reprehensible, but it may be the most peasant-like.
And we haven’t even finished the first year of his presidency.
The White House honored Navajo “code talkers” in a recent event. These were men in World War II who used their native language to transmit coded messages on the front lines.
These men were war heroes! And this event was in the Oval Office, one of the most sacred rooms in the United States and in the world!
During the 2016 Election cycle as well as many times since, President Trump has called Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren “Pocahontas.” He uses this to insult Warren because her claim of Native American heritage to Harvard Law School was proven inaccurate.
At this event for the code talkers, Trump went off script and said this:
When we take responsibility for our truth, own who we’re being, and get real with one another, that’s the only way the world can start working again.
|
“You’re very, very special people. You were here long before any of us were here. Although we have a representative in Congress who they say was here a long time ago. They call her Pocahontas. But you know what. I like you. Because you are special.”
The Democrats, the Navajo Nation, and Warren herself have come out with sharp statements of condemnation of the President’s statement. But the White House is defending Trump’s statement that it wasn’t a racial slur.
Pocahontas was a real figure in history. Not much is known about her and much of her story has become that of legend. My understanding was that she was held hostage by European colonists and used for imperial propaganda.
And then there was the Disney movie. But I’d rather not get into that. I still have no idea what a “blue corn moon” is.
This incident doesn’t simply speak to what the President said and the inherent racism therein. I believe it speaks to defending people who refuse to take responsibility for how they’re showing up in the world.
Ah hell, it speaks to people defending a petty, childish bully.
Yeah, I just called the President of the United States a bully. I mean, he is!
If you want to be like this when the cameras aren’t on, be my guest. Nobody can legislate how someone feels about another human being in their heart. If wishing made it so, but that’s not how humanity works.
But you don’t say it when the cameras are running. You don’t say it when there are microphones in your office.
And for the love of all that is good and decent in the world, you don’t call a political rival a racially motivated nickname when you’re hosting an event in the Oval Office honoring Native American war heroes!
I get it. He doesn’t like Sen. Warren. I totally get it. And Warren has been reprimanded for her claim of native ancestry.
I have always had a fascination with Native American spirituality. And my family believes we have some native ancestry in our past. But we don’t have proof.
And I also believe that certain words can be incredibly offensive. Look no farther than the pro football team in President Trump’s backyard in Washington.
Hell, I’m not even sure that “Braves” isn’t offensive and I’ve been an Atlanta Braves fan for more than 30 years!
It’s within anyone’s rights to dislike what someone stands for. You can dislike someone’s policies, or simply dislike someone, all you want.
Can you imagine the blowback if any politician – to say nothing of the President – used a certain racial slur to describe a black politician?
It would be radioactive!
I get it. I totally get it.
There’s a lot of bad blood rising in D.C. I have never seen politics this divisive and this petty.
But I also have an idyllic and romantic vision for what politicians are supposed to be in the world. These are supposed to be the best, brightest, and most driven men and women we have. Driven to make the world a better place for everybody.
And as polished as President Obama came off on camera, I have no doubt that he had his moments of pettiness and peasant-ness when the red light was off.
Mr. President; you, sir, are a peasant. The American People don’t need a tyrant. We need leaders with Royal Hearts.

But you never heard of him making such an absurd comment like Trump made the other day. The closest I remember was a crack he made during the White House Correspondents Dinner about former Speaker Boehner’s enjoyment of adult beverages.
But that was during a comedy performance! Not when he was honoring code talkers in the Oval Freaking Office!
The men honored by the White House were all in their 90s. One of whom was 97 – the oldest living veteran of World War II.
Have I mentioned these men were also heroes? War heroes!
Kings aren’t bullies. Kings take responsibility for how they show up in the world. Kings don’t make absurd racially-motivated cracks about political rivals in front of war heroes!
Mr. President; you, sir, are a peasant. The American People don’t need a tyrant. We need leaders with Royal Hearts.
Apologize. Make this right! To say it’s beneath the dignity of the White House and the Presidency is a massive understatement.
