The Good Men Project Sports’ Tuesday weekly feature, Doing It Right, highlights athletes who give back and make a difference in our society. This week we will be looking at Jeff Gordon, whose legacy goes beyond racing.

Gordon has a great passion to support pediatric cancer in its research, treatment and patient support programs. It all started as a small project driven by one special child has grown into an organisation (Jeff Gordon’s Children Foundation) that has raised more than $15 million for children’s health organizations since its establishment 15 years ago.
Gordon’s philanthropic work in pediatric cancer care doesn’t just stop locally in Concord, North Carolina. It also extends abroad to places like Rwanda, Africa. This foundation has also been supported by many other athletes, including Muhammad Ali.
Gordon announced that 2015 will be his last full-time season as a NASCAR Sprint Cup driver, and this “step-down” from racing will allow him to “step up” in his philanthropy work in his Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation and as well as to spend more time with his family (wife, daughter and son).
“It’s given me something also to be very proud of beyond just driving a race car, but also I know there is so much more that needs to be done for pediatric cancer that I want to be a part of in the future.” – Jeff Gordon
