Jennifer was relaxing for a moment just outside the front door of work when she serendipitously met Jess. He asked her a silly question about what she was drinking from her coffee mug.
“Plain old tea,” she responded and when their eyes met it was instant chemistry, hotter than her mug of hot tea. She didn’t know this guy from a ‘can of paint’ but she knew she wanted to know him more from that first moment.
She noticed his eyes fixated on her as she went back inside. The fireworks, chemistry, sexual chemistry… however you want to label it, was unmistakable.
Sexual chemistry will decide the fate of your romantic relationship, we know this. It’s that unspoken magnetic connection that’s difficult to ignore. If you’re looking to learn about the sizzling secrets of sexual chemistry then you’re in luck today!
Pheromones and the famous T-shirt study
A friend of mine told me about the T-shirt study and the role that scent, and pheromones come to play in sexual attraction; pun intended. Without getting too scientific, MHC genes or major histocompatibility complex help our immune system to ward off ‘unwanted pathogens’; taken from Psychology Today. These same MHC genes help with choosing a compatible mate for offspring. Yes, evolution is also at play!
The olfactory system, my favourite
When we smell something, the signal takes a unique neural pathway. And again to bypass the science the signal travels to an area of the brain that holds the amygdala and hippocampus involved in emotion and memory. This will “endow the olfactory sense with an extraordinary connection to emotive autobiographical memories”.
Basically in my words, that’s why smell can bring back amazing memories, and all those emotions; the olfactory system influences attraction and arousal.
Warm summer nights, infused with the scent of an attractive men’s cologne, evoke memories of romance and bring my thoughts to my partner with positive feelings of happiness and joy. Emotions I can’t explain, other than the olfactory system doing its job; (Insert heart emoticons here.)
Hormones such as testosterone and estrogen are also essential in sexual chemistry, attraction and libido. The higher the number of hormones, the higher the sexual attraction.
Body language
I always know when someone is showing interest in me, they funnel their attention solely on what I’m saying. They lean in a little closer, and of course, the subtle touch on the arm all hint toward attraction, and building a sense of familiarity. If the touch feels a little warm… even better.
Body language is essential in sexual chemistry. When you’re talking to someone and they hold eye contact a little longer they’re forming an intimate connection with you. Another trick is a subtle mirroring of your movements which subconsciously builds a more intimate connection.
Emotional connection
Shared interests, sense of humour, life values and understanding are all important aspects of developing a steamy sexual chemistry. Pheromones can only go so far, but if the personality or connection is missing, it’s a dead-end. At least that’s my experience.
Communication and active listening are all simple ways of building an emotional connection. Listening to your potential partner or love interest, and sharing a laugh will work wonders with chemistry and potentially build a long and meaningful relationship. The personality connection is the make-it-or-break-it-in emotional connection.
Trust, vulnerability, and emotional intimacy create a safe space for both partners to express their desires openly and without judgment. This emotional bond can lead to a meaningful, steamy, sexual and romantic relationship.
Conclusion
The art of attraction is a passionate and vibrant process involving a combination of pheromones, hormones, body language, and an emotional connection consisting of vulnerability and trust. Let’s strive to learn and master these sizzling secrets and watch how they impact our relationship!
