You live in a go-go society. As a result, you’re taking too many breaths, and your nervous system is on high alert. The GOOD news is your body knows what it needs: breaths! You come out of your mother knowing how to breathe, but as society starts to seep into your soul of sorts, you forget how to breathe correctly. So, let’s return to deep, slow belly breaths using the 4–2–6 breathing technique.
I learned it a few months ago to calm anxiety, but I’ve recently re-learned it from Dr. Patty Shutt at @therapyoasis, and I REALLY like her method because it involves BUBBLES!
You can casually make your way to a kid’s store for a bubble container, or you can do as the kids do and use your imagination! Here’s what you do:
- As you dip the blower into the bubble liquid, breathe in for a count of 4
- Hold the blower in the liquid for a count of 2
- Slowly blow a bubble for a count of 6
- Do this for a few minutes or until your breath feels calm and steady
Tell me: how was your experience?
Watch the YouTube video, and breathe along with me! 🙂
