Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez and Gennady “G.G.G.” Golovkin, middleweights considered among the most evenly matched fighters in recent memory, mixed it up on Saturday night in an intense fight that ended in a draw. Golovkin is an older fighter, but one with a serious punch. Álvarez is younger and makes up for his small size with speed and bodywork. Most of the Social crowd was knocked down by the spectacle in Las Vegas, giving it 77 percent positives. But the judging of the bout has turned into the main event. One judge called the fight for Golovkin (115-113), and one called it a toss-up (114-114). But veteran Judge Adalaide Byrd’s scorecard heavily favored Álvarez. Some cried foul, and Byrd has been temporarily suspended from major fights by the Nevada Athletic Commission. “A lot of people are not understanding 118-110, just like myself,” boxing veteran and Álvarez promoter Oscar De La Hoya said after the match. –Hugo Guzman
