DACA allowed immigrants who crossed the border as children to live and work in the U.S. without fearing deportation — or at least it did before the Trump Administration announced its intention to end the program in 2017. For now, the so-called Dreamers are trapped in legal limbo, with the Homeland Security Dept. still accepting DACA applications while lawsuits both in defense of and opposition to the program make their way through various federal courts. GOP leaders in Congress, such as House Speaker Paul Ryan, have put forward a bill to save DACA, but it requires Democrats to compromise and agree to fund President Donald Trump’s proposed wall on the Mexican border. Trump himself has changed his position on the Dreamers multiple times, and on Friday morning said he would not sign the DACA bill if it passed. Later that night the White House released a statement clarifying that he would after all. Social certainly would not mind if Trump refused. The compromise saw 62 percent negative sentiments on Wednesday and Thursday. –Hugo Guzman
