Sixteen days to liftoff! The wedding is just around the corner and I find myself wondering how the hell did we get here. How did two friends who trash talk each other mercilessly, end up in love and on the cusp of marriage!? Before the big day, I wanted to memorialize it in an article of sorts and share it with everyone here. I’ll let Chelsea, my near-future wife tell you our story the way she told our family and friends on our wedding website. So, I suppose, if you’re reading this, welcome to the family!

Adam and Chelsea met in this motor pool bay in the Army. Chelsea had been sweeping the floors while Adam sat on top of a truck. He was new to the unit and teased her for the way she was sweeping. Even though he outranked her, Chelsea shot a joke back at him and criticized him. Instead of getting mad at her and getting her in trouble, he smirked, and they have been friends ever since.

At this point, Adam and Chelsea had been best friends for six years. Chelsea had just moved back to Washington state after leaving active duty service. Both Chelsea and Adam were single and he shot his shot and asked her on a date. She teased him relentlessly but ultimately agreed. They went to a Starbucks in Tacoma and then went go-karting. He barely beat her and she has never let him win since!
DECEMBER 31, 2016
Adam and Chelsea celebrate New Years Eve together at Jazzbones in Tacoma. They did live-band karaoke. Chelsea sang, “Kiss Me” by Sixpence None The Richer and Adam sang “Kryptonite” by 3 Doors Down.

Adam and Chelsea ended up breaking up in March of 2017. At the time , they were both single parents who were in college full time and working while living thirty minutes apart. They were only able to see each other on weekends, and ultimately decided the relationship was coming to a close. They maintained sporadic contact for the next three years until Adam reached out to Chelsea in May of 2020. Unbeknownst to Chelsea, he had moved to a city in California only 25 minutes from her family. She decided to take a road trip to see him a week later, and while the following events were rocky and never guaranteed, they have been inseparable ever since. In July of 2020, they took a trip to Bend, Oregon where they just happened upon the last remaining Blockbuster in the world!

Adam and Chelsea visit Napa Valley, California. Neither one wanted a serious relationship, especially with each other again, but they were realizing their love was undeniable. They memorialized it by putting their initials on a wine bottle that would be displayed in the Italian restaurant they were at. Chelsea decided to embarrass Adam by randomly and loudly yelling, “No I will not marry you, so stop asking!” All the other guests stared at them and Adam turned a deep shade of red. He didn’t end up actually popping the question for another three years!
FEBRUARY 21, 2021
While this picture looks cute and innocent, this weekend was the last time Adam and Chelsea thought they would see each other. Adam had decided he was moving back to Massachusetts and asked Chelsea to move with him. He declared his love but Chelsea was extremely hesitant and sure she wouldn’t be able to. They spent the weekend playing Pokémon Go in San Francisco, CA, and when he took her to the airport, they held each other and shed many tears.
APRIL 29, 2021
Chelsea took the leap of faith and moved across the country to be with Adam. He greeted her at their home for the first time by setting up candles in the shape of a heart and setting up a bottle of wine that they had bought in Napa. They had declared this bottle of wine was either going to be their “sad wine”, meaning they would come together and drink it knowing they wouldn’t be together, or their “happy wine”, drinking it if Chelsea ended up moving to Massachusetts. Chelsea honestly thought Adam was proposing and ran out of the room yelling, “No, I’m not ready!” He was confused as he wasn’t proposing.

Adam proposes! He planned an evening on a murder mystery train ride on the coast of Rhode Island because Chelsea’s favorite sound in the entire world is the sound of trains at night. He had hidden the engagement ring in his sock and was very self-conscious that it showed through his pants. After they (unsuccessfully) solved the murder, Adam asked the host for the microphone and asked a very sheepish Chelsea to come up with him. He then got down on one knee and asked Chelsea to spend the rest of his life with him. Chelsea couldn’t stop smiling from ear to ear and said an emphatic “Yes” as the rest of the train applauded and cheered. Phew, that was a long 13 years!

That about catches us up until May of last year. From then it has been a hurricane of life and wedding debacles that we have tackled together. Issues that once caused mayhem have served to bring us closer than ever. I can’t believe that in 16 days I get to marry my bro. People will laugh when I say that but its true. We do everything together from fine dining and traveling to hiking, fishing, smoking cigars and doing shots. We experience the world together in every possible way. I thank you for joining us on our journey and hope you share your stories of love with us! The world needs more good examples and stories of success!
